I saw them on the Colbert Report last week--they played one of the new tunes live. It was pretty catchy. I've always liked their quirky style. Mark Mothersbaugh is a musical genius.

Are those "prosthetic foreheads" a nod to They Might Be Giants?

p.s. Balloo looks like a cat I used to have.
If it is to be, it is up to me.

mothersbaugh made a fortune doing the "rugrats" soundtracks. these strange corn fed genius types make good money behind the scenes in computer programming, studio production, computer game soundtrack themes. i respect the fact that you don't see them physically...but they are "there" and they are "watching" ! 8)

I haven't heard the new stuff yet but I do own an energy dome (flower pot hat).

First 4 albums are legendary.
I will not be convinced otherwise.
Hey Guys --- I don't mean to sound like a put-down on Devo or on any Devo-tees. :( I just remember how catchy and innovative they were when they came out in the late 70s with unorthodox beats and rhythmns and quirky guitar riffs and showmanship that you just had to watch, because they were so different :!: I was just expecting their "comeback" performance on Letterman the other night to knock me out, the way their first album did -- and it just didn't have that same sparkle or innovation, at lease for me. But I'll be fair and try and catch several more of their new tunes and TV performances ... :) I didn't know that Mothersbaugh was doing TV and sound production stuff all these years.... it just goes to show you his level of talent.

Yeah, Lord knows other outlets never make a mistake... MSNBC perhaps - maybe NPR?

Mothersbaugh has done some great musical work in Wes Anderson films, particularly The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. The "Hey Jude" intro in Tenebaums is one of the best movie intros ever!

I agree with some posters where they say their first 4 (for me it goes up to New Traditionalists) albums are genius. They are.
To me, anyway.
Never owned an energy dome but did see them in concert a lot. GREAT live band in the early days.

Their new album is tremendous..."Fresh" is a classic! I really expected something so-so, but this is as good as anything they ever did.

I'll be happy to amend my statement to the first 5 albums are legendary!

My Tripper is so disappointed. He thought this thread was about a cat lynching party. :( His reading skills are minimal at best ...
