Has anyone ever seen a factory stock Rickenbacker model 450 with an unusual pickup arrangement? I'm speaking specifically about a toaster bobbin without the covers, the holes in the pickguard shaped with just enough clearance for the bobbin. Hmmmmm....
Also, what are those pickups on the 450 played by the anonymous guy in the motion picture 'C'mon, Let's Live A Little' ? They look like 'lipstick' pickups but they fit the holes in the pickguard like they're stock?!? Hmmm, again.....

I don't have any answers, but it seems like a 400-series would make the best candidate for swapping in weird pickups -- just make a new pickguard, and make use of the generous routing underneath without much guilt...

Re: A couple of strange pickup questions
I haven't seen the movie, but what you're describing reminds me of the Silvertone pick-ups I've heard referenced as "speed bumps". They are about the size of a Ric pick up, are all chrome, and have a "lipstick" shaped "speed bump" running across the middle of it.tracy wrote:Also, what are those pickups on the 450 played by the anonymous guy in the motion picture 'C'mon, Let's Live A Little' ? Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).

Re: A couple of strange pickup questions
one model of dearmond pickups was very much toaster like with the black toaster opening being divided in middle - harmony H79 had those & also kay used pickups that are just the toaster knockoff in nickel finish with solid bottom. and that similar size and without toaster cover... that woud be long list - carvin ap6 pickups or murph pickups would be good candidates...for the size and almost any p-90 soapbar style pickup would do without the cover.
