Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
Hi All,
This forum is Awesome.
I've had 2 success stories that have happened within the past 6 months, and I would love to hear similar stories from other forum members. We all have dealt with the backlog, and some of us have been searching for that hard-to-find guitar; I'd like to share my stories with you:
a. Last March, I had made an entry in the C Series forum about my frustration in waiting for a 360/12 C63. I was put on a 3-year plus waiting list at POTR and was lamenting my plight when I received a PM from a forum member (KK) who had one for sale.
We exchanged e-mails and within about 3 weeks, I had an immaculate C63 in my hands. Not only was the guitar EXACTLY what I wanted, but the class and courtesy that was displayed by my fellow forum member during my transaction was second-to-none.
b. This past May, my thread in the Marketplace that addressed my desire for a 360/12 Carl Wilson was referred to member CG by another member, TB, who saw my thread and knew that CG had one for sale recently, but the thread had been closed....long story short, it's now mine, and I couldn't be happier; with the guitar, and with my transaction with CG.
His courtesy and communication were both superb. Thanks for the referral, TB!
When it comes to this forum, seek and ye shall find! Two wonderful experiences!
Thanks to Peter and all of the moderators - I believe that this is the best forum of its kind, anywhere.
Let's hear your stories!
Thanks, Bob

For me, the real success of the forum is only partly about the guitars, and mostly to do with the relationships I have with so many members that I truly call friends now. In a few weeks I'll get to meet in person those friends that are coming to the jam in San Rafael, and I'm really stoked about that!
All I wanna do is rock!
Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
Wow! Where do you start with something like that? Success to me has also been the relationships created here with other Fourmites. Then there is the information which has allowed me to be a better handler of my basses. Giving me the confidence to do things I may not have done or done as well. Then there are projects… Without the likes of fellow Forumites. Things like the 8 string (4004L8 - Dane) and HB1/4001 (Mike) efforts may have never happened or have been anywhere near as good as they have turned out to be. So to recap – great, cool comrades in Ric and other things, better bass-tech skills and a wicked sounding/playing 4004L8 and the 4001-HB1 marriage… oh yeah I almost forgot – some very cool CDs featuring talents from the Forum!! What more could anyone ask for? I’d call all of those huge successes!

Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
I've successfully gotten a serious case of RAS...
In all seriousness, I've had several great experiences buying and selling a few things, and a great time "talking" to a number of people who I think I can safely call friends even though I've never met any of them in person. I think one of the greatest successes is the opportunity to learn so much and share information with other people who love these great works of art known as Rickenbacker guitars...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Ditto plus plus on all the friendships!
In addition to that, I found an amazing TUR WB thanks to JDog, had two Ricks upgraded and refinished thanks to a couple of forum luthiers, custom wound toaster coils and repaired toasters thanks to Sergio, and bought some other guitar
parts and bits as well.
In addition to this, there have been the confluences, miniconfluences, teenycons, gigs, and other gatherings.

Bob - it was a pleasure meeting up with you at POTR and I'm very glad that the CW went to a class act like you. Jangle on!
Hope to see you again at MARF IV.
This Forum truly is a great place and the people I've met through it have been wonderful, without fail. A huge thanks to Peter, as always

Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
My Forum success story is one that touches most, if not all of us. When I joined the forum a little over four years ago, the Rickenbacker Register was inactive and had been for at least four years. I had tried several times in 2000 and 2001 to register my 325V59 (back then the only Rick I had). The entry would be accepted each time, but it would never appear on the Register. You could access the data that was there (no pictures - this was before the Register had photo hosting capabilities), but it only went to early 2000, and was not updated.
I then joined the Forum and started meeting all the people here. A couple of times someone would inquire to Peter about the status of the Register. The answer would always come back that due to commitments to the Forum and his life (Peter does have a life outside the Forum, y'know) he did not have time to slog through the backlog of new entries and update the Register. I finally sent Peter an email and offered my help with getting the Register back on track.
The next day...
My email inbox was filled with over 600 messages from Peter - Each one an entry submission for the Register. Later that day, another 600 appeared. Same thing the next day, continuing until it tapered off somewhere between 2500 and 3000 entries (If my memory is correct). As time permitted, I started making a list of each submission, deleting the numerous duplicates, and filling in missing information if known. A couple of other forumites stepped up and shared this load with me until we had compiled all the new information into a form which Peter could easily integrate into an updated version of the Register.
A few improvements by Peter and Gil, and the end result is what you see today.

Kris,
Perhaps let everyone else know who the other forum members are who made significant contributions to make the register what it is today. There is still a small crew of dedicated individuals that maintain it as well. Perhaps they too can take a bow.

Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
All I can report is the wonderful support and sympathy I received during the long two year wait I experienced from the time I ordered my 360/12 string until she arrived that glorious April day a year ago. And the collective "Hooray" messages I read when I posted the pix were really touching. BTW, the shine still hasn't worn off, either. I still get this big, stoopid grin on my face at band rehearsal every time I play that opening riff to Mr. Tambourine Man. So I guess, the RRF is indirectly responsible for the formation of Getty Township, the name of my band. It certainly is directly responsible for the name selection!
The other thing I think is a real nice touch are all the happy birthday greetings passed around on the forum among all us Rickophiles.
All this just makes me real glad I stumbled on to this place.

For me the forum has helped me get back to playing! Been a wealth of information and friendship, a source of courage to deal with Bass problems on my own, over all started me on a path to being a better musician. Thank you all! This place is a gift.

Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
All of the great people who contribute to this forum definitely make it the best online hangout for people who love Rickenbackers.... Although I haven't been posting much lately, I have made some wonderful friends here, and have had the privelege of meeting many of them at the RIC 75th Anniversary confluence, and at the SoCal minicon last May. I love taking the time to read everyone's insights and observations on all things Rickenbacker, and of course all of the pictures, videos, and sound clips are great bonuses.... it is great that so many people from so many different backgrounds can converge and become friends over the most beautiful-looking and coolest-sounding guitars and basses in the world!
Re: Forum Success Stories - Please Share!
It has to be the friendships I have meeting some fellow Ric owners at SCARF, mini-cons and BARC.
I usually play at home and it's tough to learn timing and tempo playing by yourself. I started playing when I hit 50, so while my coordinaton and skills are nowhere near the level of the people I jammed with, they do not seem to be too perturbed by my errant chords, missed changes, forgetting where I am in the song.
Also found my 360/12C63 thanks to another forum member.
