What Is It About Gretsch Guitars That You Like?
Re: What Is It About Gretsch Guitars That You Like?
They have a cool sound and they ooze class. I got into them because of George. There really is something great about the sound where it just stands out in a mix.

Matt...For me, it's all the above reasons, but I forgot to mention the tone of the FilterTrons. Those pickups have a growl and dirtiness that regular humbuckers don't have. Even when you run them clean, they're just a little dirty. Kick in some overdrive, and look out. They're fire-breathing dragons, and that's why you see guys like Billy Duffy from the Cult playing them. The original Neil Young grunge tone was forged on a Gretsch 6120.

I believe Mr. Neil Young has been spotted with a White Falcon from time to time as well! And speaking of people named Young, Malcom Young of AC/DC rocks a pretty cool Gretsch guitar toodrumbob wrote: The original Neil Young grunge tone was forged on a Gretsch 6120.

Here's a lady who loves and plays Gretsches, my wife Rachel!kiramdear wrote:I love the way they look. On guys. I hate to say it but I've never seen a lady play one. In any case, or maybe because of that, they ooze masculinity to me.
Then of course there's the connection with all the great players and styles of music that I love.

I'm very pleased to become more enlightened. That second guitar, the simpler one, does appeal to me.

That's her '60 6186 Clipper. Even though it was their entery-level hollowbody guitar, it is a really cool player. Here's her with my old 6125 Anniversary.kiramdear wrote:I'm very pleased to become more enlightened. That second guitar, the simpler one, does appeal to me.

The "Gretsch Girl" Kim Falcon owns and plays a Gretsch White Falcon, and I met a girl who played the same silver Jet model I do awhile back.

Yep!
The next Gretsch I buy will either be a Roundup with a Bigsby, or else a Dynasonic p/up-equipped White Falcon with a Bigsby.
Eventually, I'll have both. . . . I might end up needing a bigger place.

This is me at RIO in Cleveland, July 2008, playing Jeff Scott's 1961 Double Anniversary. Driving back to Pittsburgh that evening, I mentioned to my wife that it was weird to leave a Rickenbacker confluence thinking about a Gretsch. Jeff made me a happy guy when he gave me first crack at this guitar last winter and it now has a place very near the top of the best guitars I've ever owned. There's just something about it, it has that vibe... Just can't put her down.

Jim: That Gretsch is a real corker. Please tell me about the tone switch and which of the different settings that you prefer.

Thanks, John! The old car is a '48 Chrysler our neighbor used to tool around in. The pretty girl is my wife Rachel. Unfortunately, I no longer own the Gretsch. I had to cull a bunch of guitars from the herd, and since I already had a Gretsch Anniversary (my first Gretsch), the 6125 had to gojch wrote:Nice pic's Forrest,i especially like the last one,it has everything, pretty girl, old car and a cool Gretsch!![]()

What I like best about the Gretsch guitar is the sparkling tone and the great necks. They are a joy to play and they are not hard on the eyes either.
