Roger Glover w 4001 in Montreux '71

that's his '62 p-bass. his rick is in a guitar player mag story with various other basses including vigier and ibanez during his original tenure with asia. may be the '83 brian may issue. will look for the mag unless some other forumite has it handy ???

Pekka I think you are correct from what I can see in the picture. the bass in the stand looks 60-ish to me.

dudes...my appologies...i didn't even look at anything else but the p-bass. have never even seen pics with wetton in heep, although i never searched it. only crimson, and U.K. pekka, any shots of in in his hands playing ? that would be something.
due to the surround, i'd say a '68 ?

have never known him to be an svt user, only hiwatt and marshall...unless someone else is using them or they are loaners for a U.S. tour. note there are no cables thru the front of the svt. they might be spares or could be slaved thru the power amp input on the rear without going thru the preamp/tone path.

Never seen him playing the Rick, I believe he had it only as a spare. The black maple-necked Jazz Bass he had already during the Crimso days, there's a pic from the Central Park where it is leaning against the Vega bass bin he used. I think the Jazz got some studio usage on the U.K. albums (and some unreleased Fripp Exposure sessions) but the live pics show him only with the P or, during the final days, an Ibanez Roadster RS-900 (like the Lynott's bass in the early eighties).

I have a Melody Maker article from '75 or '76 where Wetton talks about his amps and IIRC, he had the SVT's and Vega cabs "on full bass" and behind those a Hiwatt stack "on full treble". He might have switched to Marshalls in 1976 because he advertised them during that time.

He also mentioned the Rick on that article and (again IIRC) he said it was a 1961 but you know those musos and their knowledge...

he used the j-bass in U.K. as i've seen pics in the inner sleeve of "night after night" cd. possibly a posed pic for media. love the original release of exposure, and hate the re-mix versions since. the 4001 in the guitar player mag is probably the one on the heep pics so i stand corrected on the vintage of approx. '68. would love to see a period foto of wetton/4001 in hand !

Is it my eyes, the light, or does that FL in the Glover photo look like the headstock is bound?
That particular bass looks like a 72, still with a thumb rest, but with a white nut, and would be only the second one I can recall. You can probably count these on one hand!

The FG 4001 behind him has a white nut as well...

Wetton's bass possibly looks like a 68/69 as the surround and Ron states...

I went and looked at the pic again. I also see what you see. Hard to tell if it's the light or if it is bound.

He should have brought one with him last night in Montreal at the ASIA show, really.... Not a big fan of his ZON Bass and it did not cut through at all... I saw them last year and it was the same tone, which is far from what he got when he was with U.K.
