My no buzz RickenJazzer

Post by VRICKY63 »

Decided to try the Jeff Rath jazz pickup installation in the mute cavity. No more buzz. Nice !

Is it a phantom coil or does it actually make noise?

It's a Fender jazz neck pickup and it does work. Quite strong actually.

Really now, that close to the bridge? You'll have to do some clips.

I'm still deciding if I like the overall tone. There is a tighter sound to the neck pickup. Less of the nasal tone I like so much from the stock mid pickup selector setting. I'll live with it for awhile and see what happens.

Does that mod require "dental work"? (I.e,removing teeth from the bridge?). The idea of a pickup back there is intrigueing, especially since no new routing would have to be done. In my case,it would give me 2 pickups to choose, but would also mean putting the Rick bridge back on (shudder)
Also by no buzz,do you mean it cancels the hum?

Yes. Cancels hum. My bass is a 4-2-5 so I guess the mute cavity may have been altered. The pickup fits inside the wood/body cavity very well. The first time I wired it, it buzzed like crazy. After switching the wires no more humbuzz.

Rick, how is it wired, can you solo the J p-up or is it wired with the treble p-up?? I am thinking of adding to my 4001S.

I just wired it- Jazz ground to the neck pickup pot body and Jazz positive to the 3 way switch neck side.
