this was with "Rickenbacker Mint"

http://instruments.shop.ebay.com/?_from ... _sacat=619

and this was "Rickenbacker Rare Mint"
http://instruments.shop.ebay.com/?_from ... _sacat=619

The history of that word for guitars is actually documented!

In 1972 a dealer ran an add for a 1959 Les Paul - the description said "vintage", as the dealer liked how that was used to describe wine.

So, if your guitar's 13 years old it's vintage.

Great for a morning laugh!

I too think "RARE" in an auction title is just there to drive hype. Do your research before buying, and make sure it is worth the price justification before pulling the trigger.

I own a 330/12 with a ruby finish and black hardware. According to the Rickenbacker website, it was made back in April of 1991. Someone on this forum told me it was an uncommon color. Would my guitar qualify as rare?

For eBay, I'd say yes, as I can't remember ever seeing such a one - the blue with black variant one sees quite often, but ruby & black? Might be rare!

Uncommon, yes. But rare is stretching it. The word is way over-used on ebay, to the point of hype.

Uncommon to me sounds like there's one on the 'Bay every now and then - and I've never seen one, so "rare" would fit,imo - but, as "rare" is overused, maybe he should call it "hard to find"?

I'd say a rare ric is a mapleglo one, medium is fireglo and well done: jetglo.
You've got to read past all of that. Pictures say more than words, like in this 'vintage' ad
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rickenbacker-4001-V ... 45f41ccfd6
althoug it's advertised as 100% normal, it's been modded heavily.
