Has anybody got a pic of the neck joint/pickup cavity of a late 4001 (75-81 vintage)?
I'm just wanting to get a mental picture of how much wood is in there compared to a 4003 (which has cuts in the wood to allow access to the rods)
If you have a pic of the last time you pulled your 70s 4001 to bits, post it here.....

Exactly what I expected, the late 4001s probably has the strongest neck joint of any 4000 series instrument (apart from the 4002 and the early 4004cII basses)

I'm looking for an 8 string Rickenbacker but so many of the 4003s/8 basses have issues in the neck joint.
If I can find a 4008, so long as there is not the truss rod issues at the other end, it's probably the better instrument...

Anyone got a pic inside a standard 4003 for comparison?

umm ... mine is a 75 (october 75 i guess) and it has the 1/2" spacing route (but it has the 1" pickguard).

The changeover from 1/2" to 1" spacing happened around Mar-May '75, there might have been bodies routed for the old spacing and used after the switch to the new spacing...
