Sorry I didn't address this earlier. Yes, I do like them, but would go with Chromes/Fender 9050Ls if this were my only bass. To me they are a string only for certain applications... to my ears, they do jazz and country the best.

Yeah, for that ultimate edgy rock and roll sound, you need those new strings wound with razor wire...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I believe that Joshua meant the Roto TruBass88's.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

What exactly do you mean by "country" bass?

Real country. Upright w/ good fundamental and punch. Not too much in the mids dept., but decent growl and treble, as upright (nee double bass) has a good deal of high end crispness.

Let's see you get some growl out of that! Lots o' thump though. I've been thinking about making one. My wife is from Alabama, don't you know.

This. If you have never heard it, you have no idea what country even is really. Kind of like the people who assume rap is what they hear on the radio. I was lucky enough to get asked to do a country gig once... quite a learning experience, my normal gig boss at the time basically handed me over to his 80-year old jazz guitarist dad for that show and said, "Have fun!" Tunes like "Sugarfoot Rag" were a blast and the crowd was great.

If I ever play country again, it's going to continue to be on a fretless. I can't see ever using a fretted for it.
