New State of Mind - Bass clip

Post by miguelbass »

Another 2 in 1 bassline, or so it seems to me ;)
Oh, and OYE is so cool - thanks, Billy & Chris!

Absolutely fantastic! Love the tone of that 5er! :D 8)
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Hi Tom & CJ!

More about that Warwick - it's a bubinga through wenge model, it must be from the early 90's - I got it around 94 maybe. It has bartolini active pickups - btw, Chris has some bartolinis on all(?) of his custom Tobias basses.
The strings are the cheapest I can get at my local music store. Those are (coincidence) Warwick bass strings. The 4 set costs 10€ and the 5 set costs 12€!... Another advantage is that the 5 string set has exactly the same string gauges of the 4 set. Many other sets I saw there from more "popular" (and expensive) brands drop the E string gauge to 100 and I don't want that. So... I got these roundwound stainless steel strings with a pretty decent tone... and I will need them mostly for 2 or 3 days... why spend 4 or 5 times more on a Rotosound set? I wish I could... In fact, after I recorded the clip, I immediately removed the Warwick set and placed there the set I had before. I will save them for my next recording...

Thanks for your comments!

Once again, Miguel, you get it right! Very nice job. Separating the two bass lines had to be a challenge.

it's always great to hear some of the "newer" stuff-OYE is such an unusual album for yes,but i really love it,the multi tracked vocals are huge on that album, and chris plays some really interesting bass lines throughout..the title cut is a favorite of mine,as well as "shine",and "the solution"..... great job as usual, miguel!

Great stuff, Miguel. I have a Warwick Corvette fretless and I can't say enough good things about its tone. And yours sounds great also!
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I'll second that! The Corvette fretless is, oops, WAS my favorite bass (until I got the 4003 the other day)! The woods, the construction/finish, and of course, the TONE is lovely. Me likey!
