Re: Chris Squire trivia: From the Revealing to the Wonderous
How about that ''''doubletrack" on roundabout? Fender telecaster or Gibson acoustic??

I thought it was one of Steve's Gibsons - 175? which was miked, not plugged in - so to speak.

Correct, Eden. Steve's old Gibson archtop was the guitar used. It's also the guitar Steve used to play and compose music on at home, notably Close To The Edge, which he originally started about living close to the edge of the Thames River.
The FOOW photo was taken by then manager Brian Lane, who took similar photos of all the band members behind what was an old style elevator door at a hotel in the USA on tour.
Original title of "Run through the light" was "Dancing through light" which appeared on a bootleg of the Roy Thomas Baker sessions from 1979 and later on the Rhino release of Tormato. Original version had Jon (not Trevor Horn) singing through some type of vocal vocoder type effect. Those session tracks, IMO, were nothing to write home about, but "Dancing " was reworked into a nice tune and another track, "Everybody loves you" appeared later on Jon Anderson's "Song of Seven".

Oh, and it was Chris Squire's Guild 12 string guitar which Steve used for the recoring of "And You and I". Steve later had Guild build him his own version, with a cutaway.
On the 90125 tour, someone (perhaps even Chris, never asked him) decided to change his nickname to "The Doctor" but I believe Bill Bruford's original name was the one that stuck and he is still referred to as The Fish or Fishy (Rick Wakeman) to this day.
Don't mess with tradition!

Great stuff, Jim. It would be interesting to see the other photos of the Yesmen behind that elevator ironwork - a look that is now so synonymous with Chris Squire's solo album.
One of these days, I'm going to run the gamut on those Rhino recordings. There are a lot of extra previously unreleased songs on most of the Yes albums they put out. I think the CTTE album even has a rehearsal take of Siberian Khatru.

Right about CTTE Mark, there is also an early version of AYAI as well. A lot of those tracks are also on Rhapsody, including some very early takes of TFTO, side 1 & 3.
The DRAMA Rhino release has a version of Tempus Fugit that has Trevor Horn scatting a lot of the vocals, presumably because the lyrics had not yet been written.

Yea, I award you five Schrute dollars!walker wrote:...I know that 'Into The Lens' was carried over from The Buggles and their version of it was called 'I Am A Camera.' Does that get me anything?...
Oh, last trivia answer... Jim Mouradian designed rugs at the time and had made a Yes logo rug for Chris, which he was able to present to him on the TFTO tour. When Chris saw the rug he said "Well, everybody else is going to want one so you'd better come to dinner with us so they can all tell you what they want..." and that's how Chris can sometimes sweep you right off your feet!
Jim wound up making custom stage rugs for the band's Relayer tour. His original design for the CS-74 was on a napkin. He showed it to Chris and Chris replied "Build it!".

5 Shrute dollars. That's great! Can I use that 5 to spend anywhere, or just use it to pay Dwight Shrute?
Interesting story about the rugs - I never would have guessed that Mouradian was a rug maker, too.

Re: Chris Squire trivia: From the Revealing to the Wonderous
Coming in late on this - knew the picture thing was taken by the manager. I believe I got that from the FOOW re-mastered deluxe supreme, autographed edition with Chris’ interview or something… Did know it was Steve’s guitar on RA – not sure where I got that. Didn’t know any of the other stuff… had no idea about the rug. So not deserving of even a Shrute penny. I will try to do better in the future.
I did hear Jon call him ‘the Doctor’ during some tour (maybe 90125) and I think it’s on the 35 year anniversary CD collection as well. But I don’t know if that would be considered a nickname – he will always be Mr. Squire, Chris, ‘The Fish’ to me.
BTW – this was fun! Can we do it again next month Jim?

Re: Chris Squire trivia: From the Revealing to the Wonderous
squire was called "the doctor" during the "big generator" tour and late 90125 tour. he wore a doctors outfit with stethescope and a heart sewn on the out side of the jacket. a girlfriend at the soundcheck of the toronto generator show earlier that day asked squire for a bass pic for me,(a light gray herco flex .75 nylon which i still have to this day). he happened to have one in his doctor's jacket. i met him later after the show, after they were awarded platinum status in canada for generator. have pics of that award ceremony and myself and squire. (big man !) also she had him leave a message on my answering machine, not knowing i was home and i freaked out and rushed to answer. it caught him off guard and stunned him, stammering to complete his previous mission by my girlfriend. he hung up ! i have that recording still.

-Dancing through the light? (that was the instrumental remix name anyway)just_bassics wrote:I don't think there's any real significance to the necklace, sentimental or otherwise, other than he just likes it and ones similar. You may have noticed Chris' love of excess over the years, which actually led to his daughter Xilan's initials.
As for "Run through the light", I had posed that question somewhere on this forum a few years ago, only I posed the question differently. I think I asked "Which Yes song is the only one to have broken a long tradition of Yes arrangements?" or words to that effect. I don't remember who answered, but someone got it right. So, my follow up is, What was the original title of that track?
The designer of the CS-74 bass used on "Owner" designed other items for Chris and Yes as well. What were they?
Who took the picture of Chris used on the cover of "Fish out of water"?
What was another nickname for Chris, other than "The Fish"?
Who owned the guitar used to double Chris' bassline on Roundabout and what was it?
Which one of Chris' NON bass guitars wound up in a very prominent postion on a Yes album?
That's all I can think of, for now.
-I don't know
-Brian Lane (IIRC, but the answer is on the interview from the DVD edition of FooW)
-The Doctor
-Steve Howe "an electro acoustic, that was miked on that recording" in starlicks
-The Photon? (it's not exactly a bass guitar) on KTA1
greetings from Belgrade!
EDIT . ok I saw the answers now - forgot to turn the page
Miguel
