Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
So I just saw the preview for this movie and thought it was cool to see a 4000 series bass getting plenty of screen time. It's featured on the artwork as well. It's from the director of Hot Fuzz which is one of my favourite movies, it looks like a nice change of pace from the abysmal **** Hollywood has been putting out as of late.

Yeah it's good to see a non-cookie cutter instrument on the big screen! I think there was a thread about this somewhere else in this Forum.

Yeah! I got the poster, and it's interesting as it is printed on both sides to add color richness and opacity in backlit poster marquees. Notice they have rubbed out the Rickenbacker name:
Author: "The Rickenbacker Electric Bass - 50 Years As Rock's Bottom"
Re: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Yeah, I heard about that this weekend. Rumor floating around the local guitar shop was that RIC wouldn't let them show their name on the poster.
I suspect it's more likely RIC didn't want (or need) to pay a heap of cash for the "product placement."
Anyone with the inside scoop care to share?

I suspect its the latter Jason. It will be interesting as to whether you can see "Rickenbacker" on the TRC in the actual movie.
Re: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Utter baloney. There has been no contact between us and the film makers. Then, of course, there's the very obvious fact which refutes your "rumor" that the name appears on the instrument all through the movie and throughout their website with the name still on it.jdogric12 wrote:Yeah, I heard about that this weekend. Re: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
How does product placement in a movie work, legally speaking? I'm assuming the bass was bought or borrowed from a legitimate owner. Does the manufacturer have to give permission to display the product even though it is someone else's property? I have wondered about this when I watch cooking shows, too.
Re: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Film production companies can buy and use anything they want without permission from the manufacturer of said product. McIntosh® loves that their stereo gear gets used in films/TV shows.

I think the production company put the Rick in the movie to generate publicity so more people would go see the film. . . . .

Do we really think RIC needs product placement to help them sell instruments??

The writer of the graphic novels must be a fan. There's a nice drawing of a 4001/3 in the first few pages of volume 1.

No kidding; it's actually the other way around. The production company needs a Rick bass to help sell the movie.johnallg wrote:Do we really think RIC needs product placement to help them sell instruments??![]()
Perhaps we could have a So Cal Forum members' movie night to go see it. . . . .rickenbrother wrote:The 4003 being in the movie is my main attraction to go and see it!
Re: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
The name appears in the movie trailer, the promotional artwork, etc. My guess is that it was removed by the printing company who produced those particular posters.
