Happy Birthday, Leo Fender!
Happy Birthday, Leo Fender!
He would have been 101 years young today.

He's one of my heroes.... but apart from popularising the solid body electric guitar, engineering the first production electric bass, pioneering bolt-on necks, setting the template for instrument amplification, helping get the Rhodes Piano off the ground, setting standards in musical instrument production, and creating one of the most recognised brands in the industry, what did he ever achieve?

Re: Happy Birthday, Leo Fender!
The guy was a tinkerer, a crank, a pioneer and a genius.
I have some vintage Fender amps and I just marvel at how they were continuously, methodically, intelligently improved over the '50s through the mid-'60s. Astounding. For someone who was not a player, Leo listened to what the players wanted and he delivered.
Not to mention those . . . erm . . . guitars and basses . . .
