Toots Pic in Mojo

Post by tblair »

Anybody see the pic of Jean Thielemans in April's Mojo magazine (I think it's in the timeline portion). He's playing a Combo 400, but the guard is plastic rather than anodized aluminum- I'd never seen that configuration before.

Someone (Larry Wassgren?)mentioned this to "Toots" before. He said that he had it changed to plastic because of the reflection of the stage lights back into his eyes. Larry?

Ah-ha- that would explain it. ...actually, I just saw that info listed as a "Rickenbacker History Fact" elswhere on Peter's site.

The Combo 400 with the white guard is actually a different one than the one in the famous pic of him wearing the tux- at least it has a different truss cover (black instead of gold). I wonder how many Rics he actually had.
