Hey, I could be wrong here but, I think the neck is obviously no problem but, the body is. Had it been a unique design fine, but that body is Ric shaped. Seems like that would be infringing.

Haha nice ad - someone got a steal. That's basically a custom shop bass that sold for half the value of a new 4003. PLus the 3001 neck is creamy, albeit a bit heavy and neck-dive prone - but that's the nature of the beast.

$1K? that's about $10.00/hour for all that work...

There was a phone number listed with the auction, I talked to him and he described it quite differently. The parts came from the person who contacted him to build the body to fit the neck he already had. Time spent on the project was about 10 hours: that's $100 an hour the way I see it to build a body and paint it.

Did Dale actually say he only had 10 hours in the project? The neck also had to be set into the body and painted along with it. I don't see only 10 hours work involved, unless of course Dale said that's what he had in it. Since Paul W. does this professionally, I would have more faith in his estimate. The auction already stated the neck was a stock RIC part, so I don't see anything "quite different" going on.

I missed the pics but from what I've read here it sounded like a 330 style bass. I sure was hoping that something like this was what we we're "Getting ready to flip out over" from Rickenbacker...I'm still getting ready to flip out but after a couple of years of waiting I don't think anything is gonna happen...perphaps they should have told us to get ready to very slowly get excited over maybe, perphaps, eventually one of these days we'll see something new!

Some folks don't seem to like the reverse headstock, but recall that the bass was built to customer requested specs.
