It must have been a real boon for photographers and their subjects when film and cameras improved to a point where a candid photo was possible and folks no longer had to sit still and hold the pose for a length of time....

However, these pics are wonderous!

Yep, smiles usually ended up making the sitter look bad as it was hard to hold a pose for an extended length of time; neck rests were the norm in studios of yore.

Fascinating photo's. Life looks so simple back then, doesn't it?

Reminds me of an excellent documentary I saw earlier this year which featured Albert Kahn and his work at the same time. His work in Asia at that time really is visually stunning.

Nice! Very much in a similar vein. What these photographers did is basically the reverse of tri-color separation work that used to be done before digital in the printing profession.
