When you're 'very handy with tools' and have 'too much time on your hands' plus 'too bored' in addition to posessing 'excess funds', with an 'overactive imagination'......this is a likely result.

I don't mind this at all. He hasn't posted finished pictures yet, but he seems to have a good idea of what he is doing and what kind of sound he is after. I look forward to hearing the finished product.

Looks like he really thought hard about those mods. And at least they're well done. I guess if you love the RIC bass scale, the neck feel, the body shape, the balance, etc. but you hate the way they sound, this is what you have to do.

I'm really glad that I LOVE the way my Ricks sound!

And lets see if he still likes the bass in a few months. All too often it seems, those who undertake these drastic mods quickly lose interest in their creation.

Interesting, when we were younger we liked to change things, tweek them, but now depending on the brand we are trying to keep them stock. Looking for original parts, fixing them, preserving their history. Its a case of everybodys different. The Rick was cool as it was, personally I would have had my luthier make me one and call it an original whatever. Oh yeah, my six string (bass) is almost done.

Somehow a lot of people seem to think of the 4003S as a great starting point for their project basses. Horseshoes, toasters, and any number of pickup changes, routes, and other mods.

I like mine just the way they are. Well...usually I put the black "vintage" knobs on them.

Oh well. I guess mine are that much more rare now!
