Prices falling in Canada

I've notice that that the prices for the few new Ricks that can be found in Canada have gone down about 20%. I'm wondering if this is simply as a result of our strong dollar, or have prices been falling in general.

Not here in the UK.
Prices for new Rickenbackers have gone crazy.
Some dealers are asking £2000 for a regular 360/6, and over £2500 if you want 12 strings.
Even the humble 620/6 is being advertised at £1600.
A year ago, shops couldn't give new 620/6's away for £799!

It's hardly suprising that Gretsch guitars are having a massive rennaissance over here.
In my local guitar shop there was a Rickenbacker Jetglo 360/6 hung next to a Gretsch white falcon, both were priced at £1999.
Which one are you going to go for?
I hate to say it, but pound for pound the Gretsch models are far better value at the moment.

Which shop's that then? I haven't seen a White Falcon for less than 2100 GBP yet!

My nearest Rickenbacker dealer is over 4 hours away and they can't seem to keep anything in stock for very long............I suspect they don't order too many but they won't admit to that of course.

I'm assuming you live somewhere in the interior, Brian, as you must be some distance away from Long and McQuade! The store in Victoria gets Ricks fairly regularly; the basses always sell within a few days when they get them. Guitars hang around a little longer, but they do get some nice ones through. They just received a 370/12 JG which is gorgeous!
I'm in there fairly often and they know me well; whenever a question about Ricks comes up they often ask me for some expertise. As for prices, if they've dropped (and I haven't noticed that) it's probably due to our dollar.

Anyone know how prices behave in summer time? Maybe they cut prices because nobody's coming in?

In Ontario I haven't seen any decent prices on new Rics. It is still much cheaper to buy from the US pay shipping/taxes/brokerage.

I had a huge credit at a local store and then traded some more stuff for my most recent Rickenbacker, but I think prices are actually pretty high here. My 330/12 was around $2100, which is pretty expensive.

A new 360/12 is $2450 at my local retailer. They do have a used 370/12 in jetglo which is sweet for $1750.

$1750 is pretty sweet for a 370/12 - I flipped one last summer and got $2100 for it, but it was Mapleglo.

It always takes quite a while for prices to drop when the Canadian dollar gets stronger, but no time at all for the prices to shoot right back up again, just like petroleum.
I haven't been shopping the new market much, but in the used market, US and Canada, my feeling is that fewer guitars are for sale and the prices are higher.

Two years ago I bought a 325v64 mint-mint-mint for $1600 that I sold a few months later for $2100 since I was intimidated by it. At the time I bought, $1500 was the going rate, and when I sold I was really lucky to get a "buy-it-now" at that price.

Of course, those prices were in US $, and some Canadian sellers were asking 50% more in Canadian dollars. Don't know if they eventually sold, or just gave up.

There's no way I could find a 330-6 for $1500 or a 330-12 with toasters for $1700 cdn nowadays, though that's what I paid 3 years ago.
