when i had my 4002, the only recording it got on was what could be considered country-pop (nasal vocal, pedal steel all over the place..) i was playing what i thought were funk licks on it,and it sounded sweet! (the final mix pretty much buried the bass part,so i was a bit let down) but i pretty much play root/fifth bass lines on some of the songs we are doing now-not really country per se,but that kind of bass line...a rick bass can do it all....imho

I played country with my now sold 4003 and V63 basses for many years. They did great with both flats and rounds.
