Re: If not a Rick...
My only non-Ricks are a Wal Pro2 from 1979 & a fretless MM Stingray from 2000. Admit i'd be tempted to replace the Stingray with a 4001/3 FL though. I've also a custom built bass & 12 string that breaks my back every so often
Can we have a bit more talent in the monitors please.....?
Re: If not a Rick...
For a practical choice, I would choose this Peavey Cirrus:

On the fantasy side, being able to pick any bass I wanted to with no financial limits, I'd pick the 4 string version of this one:

Welcome to the forum Kevin.... any pictures of you backbreaker?
Re: If not a Rick...
I would either build something completely custom or get a '59'ish P-bass.

No Ric!?! I would throw in the towel & to switch to drums or guitar...
Naw, just kidding. When I'm not Rickengrooving, my basses of choice include my Stingray, Spector and Jazz basses.

Here she is Andrew, all original except 2 pots changed out & missing the selector switch tip.wints wrote: How about a pic of the Wal?
I've ordered new pots from Wal now that they've started up again, but the newer style pots have larger spindles so the PCB needs reaming out a bit

My Guild B302, hands down. Mine is currently black but will soon look like this one...(which is actually a 301)
Re: If not a Rick...
Fender Single Coil Precision bass, the "Telecaster" style.

Re: If not a Rick...
The other bass is a Jazz. Although someday I think I'll pick up a vintage P or pre-EB stingray to round out the stable

A Gibson SB.

I sometimes envision what my life as a musician would be if it weren't for Rick basses, and although I shudder at the notion of a Rick-Free Universe, I think about which basses I would have ended up with in their stead. Since I like the clang & twang, I'd have to go with a Fender-P ala The Sex Pistols, The Pretenders, The Jam, The Clash, Firehose, SadHappy... that snarly gutteral sound similar to that of a Rick when applied the same way. A rivaling number two would be the Stingray with that cutting presence cranked.
Fender P bass, I got my first when I was 18 in 1971 I still love them and have had many over the years.
