that guitar looks influenced by bootsy collins' bass ! or maybe bootsy was influenced by abba ?
http://www.edroman.com/guitars/abstract/starbass.htm
although, there were a few different versions of it.

No, it should still be the long version! Strange...weemac wrote:Does that make the pickup surround correct then?wints wrote:Bump!
Actually, I'm going to correct myself here, and say it's a 67, as the FG looks lighter than originally called, and we have the chrome top knobs.
Well, it is Sunday morning...

Re: Abba - Ring Ring
hey...macca did it, why can't he ??? if i had an original mid sixties with long surround i'd keep it and install the higain. why dump the surround just because of the pickup choice ?
Re: Abba - Ring Ring
The video overall looks to be a combination of glam rock (it was ~ 1973) and the session guys in street clothes. Kind of an out of kilter combination with the singers dancing around in their costumes (Agnetha does move well), and the guitar player strumming away in the background with a polo shirt.
The "Bootsy" guitar with humbuckers has no brand markings, so it's clearly a one-off. Don't know if the neck would be "out there" enough for Bootsy. I've got some Hagstrom basses, but I can't tell if the neck is a Hagstrom guitar neck or not. It is close, but looks to have zero fret??

Lennon/Macca were a big influence, so anything is possible! I guess the original HS had already lost charge and they changed out the whole assembly, surround included.BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:hey...macca did it, why can't he ??? if i had an original mid sixties with long surround i'd keep it and install the higain. why dump the surround just because of the pickup choice ?

Re: Abba - Ring Ring
Well, if we're being honest here... There were a lot of ABBA songs that I liked, very few of them were the hits, but buried in a few of those records were some real gems - Solid pop songwriting and excellent production values, not to mention having your finger squarely on the pulse... I was in the Navy in the 1980's travelling extensively through Europe and South America and it was hard to ignore ABBA, as they were played EVERYWHERE! Although I hated them in High School, when in a bar in a remote region of South America and the only thing you recognize on a jukebox are the dozen or so ABBA songs listed, well, that's what got played. The more I learned about music and music production, the more my respect for them grew.
Oh, and BTW, I'm not alone - In the "Yes Classic Artists" DVD documentary, Steve Howe admits to liking ABBA as well!

Yes, we are everywhere. I just saw a blurb that actor Samuel L. Jackson is a big fan. Apparently Sirius/XM radio had a ABBA week on on of their music channels, but it was before I subscribed. Various more well known fans acted as DJ's:

Your comment about gems that aren't often heard has me interested in getting a boxed set or something.

Just saw this video on an oldies video tv channel, never noticed the Rickie content before...

Really? Frida's much nicer imo... luckely the bass appears shortly in the beginning, or I'd missed it even in the endrickboy88 wrote:The problem is, it was really tough to not watch Agnetha.

One of those weird guitars has a Fender neck - there's some german tv footage somewhere on Youtube where you can clearly read Fender on the headstock.rickboy88 wrote:I can't tell if the neck is a Hagstrom guitar neck or not. It is close, but looks to have zero fret??
