Lemmy's modded bass

Re: Lemmy's modded bass
Lemmy has had some interesting Rickenbacker basses over the years. The one that I am looking forward to seeing is the one that Mr.Hall has, that Lemmy wants to be back to it's original state.

this is supposed to be his current bass. If this is correct it looks like it could use some attention too.

Re: Lemmy's modded bass
Sounds about right. I'm not too sure about the headstock change. '69 seems to be long and '71 short. Somewhere in between then?henry5 wrote:I believe I read somewhere the bass was around a '69/'70 and was originally a 4000. It has the shorter headstock so was definitely not an RM (when did the shorter headstock come in, was it before or after '69?).
Anyone?

Gotta wonder how John Hall feels about the "Lemmy inspired" guitars.

Re: Lemmy's modded bass
Yeah, wth? They're even building a bass for him that is, essentially, a 4004LK.

Re: Lemmy's modded bass
Lemmy's genuine Lemmy, pictured above, still has "just" three pickups. The 4003 pickup cover was added by Lemmy as a hand rest.
Yeah, there is a lot of room under there, but I don't get the impression that Lemmy is a particularly "light" player and would be bothered by high action. It's probably a tweak of the truss rods that is needed to bring it back to what we would consider comfortable action, as it looks as though the bridge saddles are down pretty far.

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Lemmy's modded bass
The high action might be okay for his playing style. He strums chords, instead of playing note by note.
I believe this to be his original bass, although I thought it had a horseshoe (???)

Re: Lemmy's modded bass
This is the original 4001S, same as the Hawkwind one I think.
some mods; Thunderbird neck pickup, gold plated scratchplate, string retainers, different knobs.
