Well with about 5 seconds to go he affirmed he would ship anywhere in the US so I tried to bid on the premise that I might have been able to get it sent to another member and pay them to ship it. Guess what? Ran out of time. Double blast. I hope someone here got it!

That was bit of unexpected excitement of a Wednesday evening!

I think there are many out there who need the $$ right now. They held out from selling as long as they could. Things aren't getting better for the working man or in many cases, the still out-of-work man.
There are many sellers on ebay who don't move stuff easily. They still don't realize this isn't the time to be asking top dollar for most of the gear they wish to sell. Some of them hope for a buyer from other countries, but in these times, most people everywhere will wait for a bargain.
This I do see quite often.

I still see sales of a vanilla 4003 of over $2k USD and that's just insane, IMO.

And I do think people are having a really hard time of it or we wouldn't be seeing such a widespread offering of different models out there.

I can't recall seeing two 4001CS basses selling at the same time let alone seeing them sell along with a 4080, a 4005 and a 4003S/5. It's just something you don't see that often and the only thing that makes sense is that people truly are having issues with money.

Matt, I can imagine some of the things you're seeing right now.
Well, I didn't want to post about it before it was secured and it's not Ric content, but what I sorted out was a mid-90's Fender Bass VI that popped up at one of my local shops. I just put the deposit down to secure it.
Sarcasm just doesn't come through when you're typing...

Dunno who got it, but yet another fine mid 70s 4001 for less than $1500. This would not have happened last year I don't believe.

That would've received sparklies and a toaster if I'd got my mitts on it. I'd have paid a fair bit more than that too. Obviously wasn't meant to be.

FWIW, I think it's currently a great time to buy and a terrible time to sell. A generic 2010 4003 (fabulous as they are) costs approx £1700-1800 UK street price at the moment; I only got £2495 for my 21 fretter, and I've seen people do even worse.

Well, I've seen some great opportunities.

Unfortunately, I had to eat chinese food tonight. My fortune cookie read "You shouldn't overspend at the moment. Frugality is important."

I. Kid. You. Not.

So even if I was trying to convince myself of selling a cab or two to get something Fate seems to be telling me if I spend on something like this that I will get my hand/face slapped.

But... there's these six numbers on the back that might mean something. Maybe I can do something with them... :)

Seriously though, as sad as the flip side is about people down on their luck, it's a great time to buy.

Unfortunately, most people are holding onto their money a bit tighter and even knowing it's a great time to buy it's also a HARD time to buy. :(

To be interested in US sales, the priced are still to high for me. I bought my last 4003FG (1999 model) in 2004 for 750.- bucks including a original Rickenbacker silver vintage case. So like a vulture, I'm still wailting for the further decline in prices.
