Take a road trip for Buffalo Springfield reunion

ANOTHER TIME AROUND: If you were lucky enough to have attended Buffalo Springfield's last concert and said to
yourself, "I can hardly wait to see those guys again," well, your chance is coming up - after nearly 42 years of waiting.

The retrospectively supergroup, whose members included Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, will reunite for a pair of concerts on Oct. 23 and 24 at Mountain View's Shoreline Amphitheater in the Bay Area.

The concerts are part of the annual benefit for Neil and Peggy Young's Bridge School, which helps children with severe physical and speech impairments. The band will include Young, Stills and Furay, with longtime Young bassist Rick Rosas
sitting in for the late Bruce Palmer, and Crosby, Stills & Nash drummer Joe Vitale taking over for the late Dewey Martin.
[ note -- no mention of Jim Messina.]

The last time Buffalo Springfield played in public was May 5, 1968, at the Long Beach Arena. It was more historical than musically excellent, at least from the weary-sounding bootleg recordings we've heard of the show. Still, what a story it makes for the scant 3,600 people who attended the show, which must've been a bit of a marathon, what with a four-act undercard that included Country Joe & the Fish, Dr. Hook, Canned Heat and Smokestack Lightnin'.

Buffalo Springfield's last show was an eight-song set that included Young's "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" and "Mr. Soul" and Stills' "For What It's Worth" and an extended finale of "Bluebird."

Young's Bridge shows always feature impressive line-ups and, while the Springfield reunion is the high point this year, there's plenty more to make a Mountain View trip a small inconvenience. Playing both days will be Buffalo Springfield,
Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Grizzly Bear and Merle Haggard with Kris Kristofferson.

Joining that cast on Oct. 23 will be Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Billy Idol and Jackson Browne with David Lindley.

Additional acts on Oct. 24 will be T-Bone Burnett's Speaking Clock Revue starring Elton John & Leon Russell, Elvis Costello,
Ralph Stanley, Neko Case and Jeff Bridges.

Tickets, at $47.35 to $171 per show, go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday at LiveNation.com.

Yeah that's what made rock - rock. 8 set songs that went on all night. Seriously I would love to see these guys. No Jim Messina? Well he was a later addition anyway.

Not to throw a spotlight just on the old timers but Jackson Browne with David Lindley would be a hoot to see also. Elvis Costello always puts on a great show, so overall given all the other stars in this lineup it will be dynamite.

Yeah, they have a heck of a line-up of performers for the shows !!!
Nice to see so many stars helping out a good charity.

Question is, will Neil Young and Steve Stills stay on speaking terms long enough to pull the gig off or will they possibly have one of their unceremonious melt-downs, as has happened over the last 45 years ??? How many times did one or the other walk out on Buffalo Springfield, CSNY or the Stills Young band ? And the final Springfield album was put together, from numereous dubbed in sessions, to fulfill a contractual obligation and neither Stills nor Young was ever in the studio at the same time .... :( :(

But on the other hand, if the two of them are cooking, the alternating leads and blazing Gretches on a Bluebird jam could make it a memorable event ! :D

I read somewhere (can't remember where now) That Stephen said that he will just show up and play. It will be better and more spontaneous that way or words to that effect. Let's hope it's not like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Cool link for the Whittier High performance !! I believe there's also some bootleg of Buffalo Springfield at Rolling Hills High School, here in my area. Hard to believe they were still a working band, trying to make a living, playing High School dances when they had hits like For What It's Worth and Bluebird, etc. No artist Royalties in those days ! :x
