Murder in My Heart
Re: Murder in My Heart
Good lyrics, I think! Not exactly Peaceful Easy Feelin. A modern world/life in confusion and disorder. "Murder" expresses this, not necessarily the thoughts of a potential Killer! If they suit The Searchers is another question.
Drumming: I admire Chris' drumming, too. He had finesse and taste, "less" can be better than "more". Some drummers don't get that. A very good example is a clip seen on YouTube. Blunt has quite recently joined. Watching Love Pt. No 9 is very near to painful.

I agree, EInar, Chris had excellent taste, knew when to drum and when not to! That's probably the most important skill in great drummer.

Re: Murder in My Heart
I see one of the comments on YouTube describes it as "Keith Moon meets the Searchers"
That clip is also a good example of what I was saying on the "John switches to lead guitar" thread, that the 12-string guitar is not always ideal for solos...

Yes, Nick, and for some reason, they think "Moon Drumming" (as these Moon fans call that technique) is a good thing for The Searchers. The Searchers are not The Who.nick_allen wrote:I see one of the comments on YouTube describes it as "Keith Moon meets the Searchers"![]()

We expect The Searchers to have a drummer who plays the drums like Chris Curtis, with "good taste and finesse" as Einar put it.

We will have to agree to disagree, Sheena. Being a Chris Curtis fan since 1964, there is no power on the face of the Earth to change my mind. No other drummer, not even Ringo Starr could offer the many talents of Chris. But that is my Chris-biased opinion, talking of course.sowhat wrote:Depends on who expects.Yes, Nick, and for some reason, they think "Moon Drumming" (as these Moon fans call that technique) is a good thing for The Searchers. It is different, indeed, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to be a bit different, a slight change may be only for better. Not to mention more often than not, i'm crazy about bass players, not drummers...

As anyone who's seen them live knows, Frank is a great bass player (why is he always mixed down on the records?). I wish he could get a bit more recognition...

I've not seen them live, but I just love Frank. I wish he would get more chances to sing lead, as well -- for the rest of you to see/hear and video to post on YT! Particularly, since it doesn't sound like they are not planning to cut anymore "albums."
I am unhappy to learn here that Frank has been mixed down on the records. Unfair!!!

Indeed. Besides, he's simply cute. I mean, funny and all.JeffZ wrote:As anyone who's seen them live knows, Frank is a great bass player (why is he always mixed down on the records?). I wish he could get a bit more recognition...
What's better than a little disagreement? As for me, it helps me learn new sides of something i thought was known to me.chriscurtisfan wrote:We will have to agree to disagree, Sheena. Re: Murder in My Heart
All the lead guitar on the Sire recordings is John.chriscurtisfan wrote:Roy, Would you send me the original version of Frank's song "Don't Hang On" -- I would love to hear it! Thank you!!It sounds like you are saying that John did the lead on the final recorded track released to the public.

And I'll just poke my nose in here for a second and say that I too believe that John Blunt was the best drummer ever in The Searchers.sowhat wrote:Indeed. Besides, he's simply cute. He added a lot of spark to the band at a time when the really needed it. He would have been excellent on the Sire period stuff.

Re: Murder in My Heart
Roy, I hope the guys are o.k. with my use of their beautiful song in a special video I made
The beat seemed to fit the pace we are walking, and I LOVE the song! My 2 grand passions in life: The Searchers and Scottish Terriers.

Re: Murder in My Heart
excellent I have a video somewhere of them possibly performing murder In My Heart live, possibly not the greatest quality but as far as I am aware I am only person to have a video of a full show done at Frontier club in Batley, Yorkshire in early 8Os.
They did a lot of Sire stuff on this particular night
I'll try and find it and see if it is worth posting.
