Re: Going for another one!
That looks like a really fun bass. Always wanted one myself. Congrats Eden.

Well I played it with my sciencefolktion band "Polymack" yesterday and I do use overdrive at times, it worked very well.mad_phingers wrote:That bass looks great! Id love to hear one of those get real dirty.
The sound is fairly close to the Waterstone tp-12 basses (as much a prime mover as a bass) that I usually play, however the 4008 is easier on the hands and back!
The strings at the saddle end are notched a bit too close to each other and because of that the octave can get choked at the high end of the bass I will in time replace the saddles and reinforce the neck joint to ensure it never has neck problems..
It cost me an arm and a leg (due to the shipping and import taxes, the bass itself was well priced) and I still think it is great value overall!
It will probably become the main player along with the "White Elephant" my white TP-12
Eden.

Congrats on the 8 banger Eden. I have always wanted one of them.

Eden, don't feel too bad about the deep pocket for the truss rod adjustment weakening the neck. It's not much different on new 4003's either. you do have a much stronger headstock at the nut due to the routing not being there. An easy fix for the weak truss rod pocket would be to remove the truss rods and have a piece of maple cut to precisely fill the pocket all the way to the pickup route. Then extend the truss rod routes in the new piece and reinstall the truss rods. Cut off the excess threaded ends so as not to interfere with the neck pickup. Having the truss rods slightly shorter at the headstock end shouldn't make a difference. Even if it does, Dale F. can always make a new set of longer rods for you. Be sure to straighten the rods, chase the threads with a tap, wax them and install new tape between them before you put them back in.

This is something like the repair I had in mind. I did the maple block trick on my 74 4001 and it worked a treat, it went from having a floppy neck joint to having a very solid neck joint! And still maintaining a 1/2" spaced pickup.aceonbass wrote:Eden, don't feel too bad about the deep pocket for the truss rod adjustment weakening the neck. Awesome!
Re: Going for another one!
One of these bad boys turned up on craigslist a month or so ago. Eight strings seem downright intimidating.
It's a nice bass.

Eden is adept at making 8 and 12 string basses sing! I'm in awe........Malchik wrote: Eight strings seem downright intimidating.

WOW!!!!! I like that 4008!!!!!!
It reminds me of the one that Chris Squire and John Entwistle had. I saw Chris play his during the "Going For The One" tour.
Congrats Eden!!!!!

Re: Going for another one!
He didn't discuss some of the details, and I suspect that he may have had a 4003S/8. He did say "1980" which would indicate the 4008 (1975-'83ish), but then says it has the split pickguard with the truss adjusters at the body end, which would indicate the 4003S/8 (1986-2000ish).

Great vids, love the sound!
Seems like my case of RAS is starting to act up again...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Going for another one!
Ditto... it's only the second 8-string I've heard but I'm already really digging the sound. Reminds me of learning to play guitar when I was just starting 6th grade, on an acoustic 12er that my granddad left us.cjj wrote:Seems like my case of RAS is starting to act up again...![]()
