Even allowing for the smoke staining to be genuine, I can't understand why anyone who has a CS bass would have the pickguard sprayed to cover the signature - DOH!!!
We had a member some years back who was in a fairly well known band, (I think he was playing or had played the Lettermen show), and he hated the signature too and I'm pretty sure he had it taken off somehow or other, don't know if he smoked though. Said he wouldn't play one with Squire's (or anyone's) signature on it. Anyone else remember that?

No disrespect to CS, or to anyone else who has their own signature edition guitar or bass, but I wouldn't want somebody else's signature on my instrument either. It just ain't my thing. Having an instrument that looks like a famous player's...YES; having their signature on my instrument...NO.
I have Glenn Fry's sig on my 2030GF, but I'd rather not. I might remedy that sometime soon!

Maybe I badly phrased the criticism. What I meant to question wasn't so much the removal, but rather the method...painting over it I think I'd have just taken the original off & put a replacement in
Can we have a bit more talent in the monitors please.....?

I agree. The only one it seems to work for is Les Paul
