360/12 V64 versus 360/12 C63, which do you prefer?

Post by RonLovesRic12strings »

Having owned both at one time or other, I've stuck with the V64. I prefer the ambered look of my recently acquired V64.....has a nice ruby-red border and nicely ambered center. It could be my imagination, but the headstock of the V64 seems thinner from front to back, and even the body seems thinner and the horns more pointy on the V64, which I prefer.

When the C63's became available, I just had to have one because it was an exact replica of Harrison's 12 string. I sold my first V64 to help finance the C63. However, I sold the C63 and found another V64 to my liking !!!

It would be nice to here from some forumites who have had both a V64 and C63. Which do you prefer, and why?

There's a comparison of the body shapes at bottom of page 8 of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=385490&hilit=360%2F12C63&start=105

Can you guess which is which?

The guitar on the left is the C63. The horns appear wider, and the slash soundhole is smaller. Less apparent is the direction of the individual saddle adjustments. They face toward the neck on the C63.

By the way....nice guitars....do you prefer one over the other?

I've owned both, I and prefer the C63. When I had the V64, the spacing of the strings was so close that the guitar was virtually unplayable, but the C63 plays like a dream - it's the best 360-style 12-string that I own.

I'm not sure if the nut could have been replaced on the V64 for wider string spacing, but it's a moot point now.

The C63 definitely gets my vote - for looks, feel, playability, and mega-coolness. I'll NEVER sell mine.

What an awesome guitar!

Great topic - let's see more opinions!

I really wouldn't care...as long as it feels good in my hands, and that's what my V64 has done for me.

I'm out in the cold on this one since as far as I know, the c63 hasn't been offered as a lefty. I had a v64 for a short time a few years back, but sold it because the sound was so similar to my 360/12 CW. The CW just felt so much more comfortable to play.

C63, due to the 7.25 radius and more lively "X" braced top.
