Sloppy Ric playing in outer space.

Post by clankchris »

Haha - An idea I had after going to the beach to run at night last week, around the harvest moon, with some out of tempo drum machine playing and a "rough draft" run-through bassline with the Ric/Re-20 Delay(which I forgot to turn on the first 16 seconds).
I'm new to using a "drum" anything, but had a lot of fun playing bass to them, and trying to lay them down around ambient synth.

At least I didn't screw up the synth's timing(don't think that's possible, though :P )

I'm a little nervous putting this up here, but found this forum to be really friendly last time I posted something :)
I recently bought recording gear at home at the advice of a friend who asked what the point of having a cool bass and ideas in your head are if you can't share them with others.

That's a cool soundscape you came up with there. I can see myself running along the beach at night under a harvest moon! Great sounding bass. How was it tracked? I like the synth patch you used, too. What kind of synth is it? This would be great to hear again if you get around to programming what you played on the drum machine into actual patterns and retrack. Best of luck "discovering" your rhythm machine! It can definitely be a process to learn to program one.

Thanks for the compliments, Walker :)
Your bass sounds great in "This Mind" as well. I like it.

I recorded my Ric direct using my Tech21 Tri-A.C. on the "British" channel, into my Boss Space Echo and right into my M-Audio Fast Track Pro.
For the synth patch, that's my newly-acquired Alesis Micron. That took some time away from my bass playing, for sure. I love how analog it sounds for a digital synth.

As for the drums, I'm still working on them, not decided yet on sequencing everything - I want them to sound more "human" on some of the stuff I'll do, and seem to be getting better at making them groove everyday(I have a feeling I'll wind up with an elec. drumset and a good program to trigger them with sometime soon).
That was a really "rough" take and just to get some ideas down on drums and bass guitar.

Starting out is so mind-boggling when you think about it all, but very fun when you're actually coming up with new stuff and playing.

Christopher, great sound - love the bass tone. When it first started I was thinking early Genesis then started getting the feel of some early Jon Anderson - the Olais days...? I don't hear sloppy... it seems to work the way it is. I do agree that the drums could be more organic sounding but all in all I think it's a pretty darn good piece.
