Rotating control layout?

Post by datru »

Have any of you who also play Gibsons ever thought of rotating the control layout on your Ric to match? In other words, Both volume controls above each other and tone control behind them (Like on a Les Paul - you have heard of those right?)

I'm not planning on doing this, but I am curious. It seems like it might be good for someone who switched guitars a lot.

I worked on a 350 that was wired like a Gibson. The owner had me put back to RIC wiring except the fifth knob controlled the volume of the middle pickup.

I wonder what response I'd get if I went to the Les Paul forum and suggested the rotate their controls to match Rics?

I suspect you would not get a very good response to that suggestion.

I've never understood some Gibson wiring, with everything so interdependent. I recently had a customer who had taken his 360 to a repair guy who, as a "favor", rewired it in Gibson fashion--no charge.

He had me put it back to RIC stock with a new harness.

I definitely prefer the Gibson layout and will probably do it to my 4003 one of these days. Just makes a whole lot more sense to me.
