Pat and/or Tom, go right ahead and play these. I'm sure I'll have plenty of playing time, which most likely includes two different pre-organized groups.pehayes2 wrote:Skip, if you (or anyone else) needs a bass player, I know all but two of these songs. Just let me know what songs need a bass player and I'll try a learn them. Of course, deferring to Joey and Tom O'keefe.Surf Song List :

Regarding Mark Neill and me doing some Country, Rockabilly, etc. He's got a great voice, so I envision some Roy Orbison, Everly Bros., etc.
I have an email in to Mark now to see about getting together to work on a set list.
Pat and Tom-go for it! First come, first serve! Sign up for the song or songs you want (I assume you both play bass). And David-which songs do you want?
I am open to adding or substituting other songs if you have suggestions.

I'm up to taking a shot at "Nowhere Man". It didn't sound half-bad at the jam at Gary's.paologregorio wrote:Ooh, just noticed this. If you can, compile a song wish list. That ought to make some guys salivate and want to join in.
I'd love to hear some 50s stuff at a Rick jam. You'd never know it from looking at me now, but I love rockabilly, and my hair naturally pompadours, if I let it.

Hmm, no one seems to want to take the reins for a Beatles segment. Surprising!

OK, here's what I have so far:
Surf Song List :
Apache-datru, lead (or split lead with someone)
Pipeline-datru, lead (or split lead with someone)
Walk, Don't Run-datru, rhythm
Penetration-datru, rhythm
Out of Limits-datru, rhythm
Wipe Out-datru, rhythm
Rawhide (Link Wray-not TV Show theme)-datru, rhythm
Rumble-datru, rhythm
Rebel Rouser- datru, rhythm
Pat (pehayes)-go ahead and sign up for what you want to play. You didn't mention the two songs you don't know.
Here's the plan:
I'd like to have 4-6 guys play on each song. I will play only if needed to "fill out" the lineup. I want to expand my horizons.
Feel free to suggest additions and/or substitutions. I will make the final determination based on members interest.
Depending on how many people sign up, I may decide to limit the number of songs each guy will play on, but for now, it's wide open.
Come on guys-it will be fun.

There's a request to play U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name." Vito, do you know the guitar on that one?
Small World Band is welcome as well, by the way.

Re: SCARF 2010 -- So Calif Annual Ric Fest Oct 16th
We've branched out a bit; we played "Slow Down" last couple of jams, and another one not ventured into before. "I Feel Fine" would be cool as well. As long as its not from "Magical Mystery Tour" or "Abbey Road", or "Number 9(ha try playing that one live LOL!)" I'd probably be okay with it, unless it's "Hey Jude" or "Eleanor Rigby." I know, sacrilege, right?
Gentlemen and ladies: if you want your band to play, please pick a slot, or it will be all jamming; we have a lot of attendees who are itching to play more songs!

I'm on board IF Steve T. will sing "Long Cool Woman" and the high part on "Groovin'". We'll wing it on "Tighten Up". You ARE the COOLEST!

I'll take lead guitar and low vocals on "I feel Fine". Guitar with your 330-6 of course.paologregorio wrote:We've branched out a bit; we played "Slow Down" last couple of jams, and another one not ventured into before. No way I'll "head up" a Beatles jam. This is only my second function! I learned George's parts "note for note" on "All My Lovin'" and "I Call Your Name" when I played in the trib band "Daytripper", but I'll be damned if I remember them now!

Has anyone pointed out the irony of the California gathering being the one most strictly organized???

Yeah, the politicians are driving California off the rails like a crazy train, with their election mudslinging and the State Treasurer is writing IOUs that bounce .... but the Rickenbacker enthusiasts setting up a jam session across the street from a horse racing track, are going to bring order out of California's chaos !!!
We’ve got approx four bands and 30+ Jammers and a stage that will hold maybe 6 musicians at a time…. And we’re just trying to figure out a way to rotate folks, so nobody has to wait hours and hours to get to play their favorite songs. What we need is a sophisticated computer program, with a highly scientific matrix, that will align up batches of songs with drummers, bassists, rhythm guitarists, lead guitarists, singers and a keyboardist (or two) and calculate who already played and who didn’t and who likes Oldies and who likes New stuff….. is there an “Excel for Confluences” ?
Alternatively, we can do it deli-counter style and everybody take a number and wait till you hear “Next” called out !

Dave D of the Byrds Collective sitting in !
As the Surf coordinator (Chief LifeGuard ?
