Ronald, check out the QPR video from 1976, if you can get your hands on one... Chris uses the 4001/8 for Roundabout in that video.

Ron,
Check out the John Entwistle collection in the book "Bass Culture" (Sanctuary Publishing).
Theres a full page photo of Johns bass which was one of a pair.
(Chris and The Ox had identical 4001/8 basses.)
The Ox had #MH2553.
I think I posted a pic on another thread somewhere but I cant find it just at the moment.

Yep, p. 68 in fact - That book, along with "The Steve Howe Guitar Collection" can stir up lots of trouble!

Yes, fortunately, I do not have either book. I hate to inflame my already heated passion!

those are collection shots so , yes the headstock would show. i'm talking concert shots where they mostly have the artist at center view focus thus cutting off the headstock as it''s futher away from the subject. photogs are not interested in headstocks.

I remember the old days when one could carry one's camera into shows and shoot away (no flash of course). Although I sometimes ended up with good shots (and I still have them), it was difficult juggling everything: trying to compose the shot (and not miss things like headstocks), guess the exposure, hold the camera still, pass the rolled number (remember, this was the OLD days), and actually ENJOY the music. That is why sometimes photos aren't quite perfect.
And then there was the "running out of film" syndrome. I missed quite a few finales because I had already burned through all the rolls. The famous laser cone around Phil Collins in 1977 during "Supper's Ready"comes to mind!
