Seeing them for the first time live this Saturday... it's going to be chilly and rainy... but I doubt the band will disappoint!

Muse is one of the better current bands IMO. I also doubt that they will disappoint you.

I'm not much for light and stage shows personally but, Muse did not waste one dollar with their stage show. AMAZING! They are a talented supergroup.

Muse were awesome yesterday - the 2nd opening band, Editors were great as well (slinging Jetglos).

Here's a picture of Muse in action... my phone pictures all turned out horrible, at least you can make out FG bass headstock -well, if you know he uses one, anyway

My wife and I saw Muse in Denver last night (finally). We had been intending on seeing them in Broomfield, Colorado back in the Spring, but the concert was canceled due to a snowstorm in the mountains. The equipment couldn't get across the continental divide. I was late on the draw then, as the remaining tickets were in the hands of resellers.

The concert was great! They are indeed a fantastic live band. The fireglo Ric bass was used on two songs, including "Knights of....". "Knights..." was performed near the beginning - 2nd song I think, rather than as the usual closer.

We both wore earplugs, and could still hear everything well. The bass spectrum was so strong your body vibrated. Here is a cell phone shot.

The staging was really good. I felt that the stage was designed to fit into one end of a North American hockey/basketball arena ("arena" show). Good lighting (lasers, LED's, spots), and they projected video onto the columns that went up and down. Matt Bellamy was interviewed in the Denver Post for the Oct. 1st issue, and he commented on being into set design and would like to do more of it.

The center column with the drum kit never came down all of the way, but the other two did so that Matthew and Christopher (bass) could roam around a bit. The grand piano cover was rigged with lights or LED's to light up with the specific key he was playing. Very cool.

Well worth the ticket price!

I played with these guys on the Big Day Out tour in Australia this year. I was anticipating them to be typical knobish rockstars in person, but they turned out to be really friendly.

Cool thread.... My 13-year-old son just turned me on to this band a couple of months ago. He was watching music videos on TV, and said, "Mom, you've got to come see this band--they're playing a Ric bass!" So I watched the video with him (It was their song Resistance), and liked it. I started checking out their music on YouTube and their MySpace site, and then treated myself to the biggest iTunes Essentials collection of their music for my birthday. I would love to see those guys play live; the sound of their music is huge and incredible to my ears, and from what I have seen on the videos their live performances are second to none.

The KARMA Kings does Uprising. Very fun to play, but difficult on the left hand; I use my 5 string fretless Martin Keith for it and the constant octave hand stretch in first position gets physically tiring to do. Chris, I believe, uses an octave pedal and plays the part way up the neck, around the 10th fret, so his hand does not have to be stretched out, making it easy for him to play.

Oops, I actually forgot to mention that there indeed were "older" folks in the audience. A couple in their 60's somehow ended up with general admission tickets, but stood near the mixer board, computers, and cameras near the back. Some parents went with a teenage daughter, but there were many like us who approximated 50 years old or so. Muse has a very broad appeal.
My wife was a trooper and went with a bad cold. I told her I'd tag along with her at the next bead show.

I think I mentioned that there was good Guitar Player issue this year I think where Matt mentioned liking a big humbucker sound. Chris often uses fuzz on his bass to add to the power trio sound. When there isn't fuzz, the bass definitely has a roundwound strings edge.

Definitely my favourite band ATM, and they have been in my top five for quite a while now. One day I'll be able to play the Hysteria bass line flawlessly - and to copy that sound. My Stingray sent through a Big Muff Pi sounds a lot like it, but then again my fingers don't ..
