sorry its not a bass

I'm not a huge fan of blue either, but this is so dark and looks like a late twilight sky. That 660 alludes to what this bass would look like with CB.teeder wrote:I'm not a huge fan of blue guitars, but you're right. This would look great done up to vintage specs! That's an awesome blue!johnallg wrote:Can you imagine this bass with checkered binding?![]()

If my maples weren't so nice....jingle_jangle wrote:The darker the better IMO...and the latest has a purple/aqua flop that's gorgeous, too.
Hmm...checkerboard with MID on a 4001/4003...who wants one?
I didn't know that. I thought it was simply a base-coat/clear-coat. I just liked the way that it would get that purple hue in low lighting.jingle_jangle wrote:...Seriously, though, Ken--the original was a two-step color, like Ruby--a transparent blue tint over a silver base. So, also like Ruby, the "Original MID" can vary in shade quite a bit.
It became a base coat /clear coat in its second iteration. That's represented by the lightest of Ron's samples. It's been getting deeper by shades (and, to my eye, more elegant) ever since. The latest (post-2007?) is the best.ken_j wrote:I didn't know that. I thought it was simply a base-coat/clear-coat. I love them....especially the earliest ones....like my 89jack1953 wrote:What's the consensus on the midnight blue rics as far as popularity goes? I heard that they are the least popular, which is why there are fewer of them driving up the price. Anyone actually seen a sales stat on which colors are the most popular and in which order? Just curious.

I believe John Hall said sometime back that Jetglo was the most popular color on the basses. It would follow that Fireglo would be second most, then Mapleglo, then Midnight Blue. These are the current available colors. Sales stats? We aren't privy to that info, unless you can get it from a store who is willing to research their own records for you. I would imagine a high-volume Rick dealer's records would likely reflect JH's report. When it comes to the other colors over the years, it would be impossible to know for sure, but a long look at the Rickenbacker Register here would be indicative of the popularity of any particular color.jack1953 wrote:What's the consensus on the midnight blue rics as far as popularity goes?
