Fun Rickenbacker birthday at a gig

Post by partime »

Thought I would share this. I have a relative who is a singer,guitar/bass/mandolin player for three different bands. Myself, my wife and daughter went to see them play on a Friday night. It was quite the evening as he had lost one of his family members two hours before the show. He was a professional as he played on in his usual energetic fashion, filling the floor with dancers. At the middle break, his wonderful wife sat him down, blindfolded him and sang happy birthday, Marilyn Monroe style. Then plopped down on his lap a large instrument case. I knew immediately what it was cause it was too big for a guitar and was a rickenbacker case. Blindfold off and what I believe was a new Ric 4001c64. Big smile and a hug, it was quite a moment. He is in a Paul McCartney tribute band and did not have a Ric bass. Pretty cool.

That's one of those basses I'd never have the guts to pay for due to the price tag, but if it was given to me as a gift like that I would happily accept (even knowing it was paid for out of the same bank account). I probably would have cried at something like that too; not just because of the bass but because the wife sounds like a very supportive person which is great. Also probably very supportive helping him through his recent loss. :(

AWESOME story!!!!! :D

I am Sorry for your loss as well.

I once visited a music store with an old girlfriend. While there, I spied an old 70's Gibson EB3 Lefty.
I went back and forth on buying it---with her encouraging me to go for it. I passed on it though.
Later the following week, I come home one day.....there's a triangular cardboard box on my bed.
I open it up....and THERE it is!!!!!!! She went and bought it for me!!!!!!

WOW!!!! was I surprised!!!!
