Yep: The economic law of scarcity is in play here...

*HUH?* No, I was just resting my eyes. Honest!
Good points, that raise another question. What are the differences between these models and their current or recently discontinued production counterparts? I'm sure we'd all love to know the gory details!

Ok.. I am really confused.... being a new member and all please forgive my ignorance. There's a rickenbacker Japan??? I thought RIC was one of the few guitar mfg's that soley produced in the USA. Can someone please explain this to me. I'll get a drink in the meantime as this has definitely thrown off my whole day. Not too mention that the possibility exists of getting a RM1999.

How long have they been producing guitars in Japan? Are they the real deal or are they OEM? Wow I'm almost speech\typeless.

So whats so special about Japan that they get these and they aren't released for sale here in N.A.

I suppose they have a yen for special models ... sorry, couldn't resist.

But seriously, folk, it's just something that RIC does. Dunno if there's an official explanation.

Thanks, John, I'll be here all week.

I suppose it's just a good business choice, based on what the customer is willing to pay. The Japanese do pay big yen for their ricks.

Japan is a great market for any instrument with a Beatles link... Gretsches, Hofners, Rickenbackers and even the Fender Bass VI all sell at chunky premia over there relative to the US. They also love the Ventures - vintage Mosrites are worth a fortune there relative to Stateside....
