Japanese RM1999's re-issues

Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues
just to chip in my ha'pennys worth,
These "1999 style" re-issue basses were always only a special order for the Japanese company that ordered them.
On that basis they should be prefixed with the name and model number of the company that ordered them as oppsed to Rose-Morris (RM) 1999 reissue basses given that RM 1999s were another special order back in the early 60s and were catalogued as 1999 not 4001s in the Rose Morris brochure.
Otherwise a hundred years from now there will be a lot of confused people on the Antiques Roadshow!
By the way this is my first post as "pag" because for some reason I cant activate my "seyesbass" title.
I want to put some stuff on the marketplace but I am unable to until I get enough posts.
If need be I will just post the details on this section.

PM Peter or Gil about this issue. I'm sure they can fix it for you.pag wrote:By the way this is my first post as "pag" because for some reason I cant activate my "seyesbass" title.

Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues
I LOVE this Forum.....I LOVE ALL you guys!!!!!
This may be my LAST post here.......I may be banned/kicked off for what I'm about to say.
I AM such a LOVER of Rickenbacker basses!!!!!!
I am Fortunate enough---For a Left-Handed player----to own ALMOST every Lefty RIC bass I could want.....
"75 4001LH Refin from JG to MG
"78 4001LH MG
"91 4001V63LH MG
"93 4003s8-string FG LH RARE!!!!!!
My problem is.....WHY are we buying into this????
WE, ALL here are chasing a Ghost.......a Dream............
THE bass we are killing ourselves to own------ The RM1999....DIED back in the 60's.........
SURE.....it HAD the vintage pick-ups, AND, all the "Old-School" looks, sound and feel.
IF you own ANY of the basses I mentioned above.....you, like me, already paid a GREAT amount of money to own a bass that WILL give you as CLOSE a sound and feel to the RM1999.
WHY must WE fall all over ourselves in the attempt to buy THIS bass???????????????????????????
And......ARE there ANY Lefty versions?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues
Thank you again for everyone.
Greg, Sorry, I don't know whether a left-handed version can be available or not.
I am very satisfied with 1999 re-issue obtained this time.
I have owned 1991 4001CS long time before but it has already been sold off. That has "D" shape neck and special wide frets on the fretboad it was like Mr. Chris Squire's original 1999 bass.
I am surprised 1999 re-issue neck is considerably thinner than 1991 4001CS and it has "C" shape profile I feel very smooth fitting for my hand, I love it!
And, I am surprised at a thing that is considerably lighter than 1991 4001CS about the gross weigh. The weight of my 1999 re-issue was 4.14kg.
However, genuine factory material of the pickguard has changed. It is pure white opaque material without grey-ish feeling as an old '60s semi-opaque material. It is lacking in quality of being an authentic and I feel look a little cheap so, I will plan to order the semi-opaque one to Pickguadian for replacement.

Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues
With all due respect; those of us fortunate enough to have played several 60's basses (and more fortunate to own one) - the newer stuff doesn't replicate the sound or (more importantly) feel of the early basses. Based on Moonie Man's review, it sounds like the 1999 does come close. The 60's Rics are legendary for a reason. I'm just bummed that the 1999 isn't available in the States.
Re: Japanese RM1999's re-issues
You just cant re-create some 40 years of aging.
