actually, they are brown anodized or powder coated brass. was cool to notice them. owned the house since '99...hmmmm...wonder what my wife looks like ? 
lol. checker binding on the door...hmmm...i bought some off the bay for my 4450 project...might look cool on the door inlaid around my door knocker. naaaaahhhhh ! i'll stay with the project. got everything i need except the altered 4001 style pg. maybe i'll swap a couple of the thumbscrews so i'll always feel at home !
