Rick-o-sound 360/12 C63???

Post by gibsonlp »

Hi guys.
I noticed something really strange - my 2005 C63 doesn't have 2 parallel mono outputs but rather a stereo and a mono output...
The upper jack (the one closest to the strap button) is a mono output while the lower jack is a TRS connector having each pickup sent to a different "side". What gives??
The jackplate doesn't have anything but serial number on it (05 sn, no rick-o-sound / standard labels).

According to the register - it's one of the first C63 made (Jan 2005), the sample of C63 instruments is pretty small so it could be wrong, but shouldn't be TOO wrong...
So long and thanks for all the fish!

From the RIC literature, the C63 is supposed to have "parallel mono" output jacks.http://www.rickenbacker.com/model.asp?model=360/12C63

Sounds like you got one with "Ric-o-sound."

Ironic, because the 360/12V64s initially had Ric-o-sound and then switched to parallel mono.

Have you looked for a discussion of this issue on the RIC forum?

PS -- For what it's worth, I tried both output jacks on my 2009 360/12C63 and they are each mono.

That just means yours is worth more!

I think that's super cool, because ROS is superior to dual mono sonically. If you want, you can always buy the Dual Mono circuit from RIC's boutique. If you record with that guitar, I suggest trying ROS.

So long as your jack plate doesn' say "ROS" on it, no one's going to notice anywy. Most folksdo't even use ROS. ROS wasn't the reason I bought any of my deluxe models; it was the inlays and te body binding! :D

Thanks guys.

Looks like some of them left the factory like that... http://www.rickenbacker.com/forum_view_ ... o%20wiring
Oh well... The funny part is that I DO have reversed tone pots, took me a while to figure that out - I thought my guitar was bad!!! :)

This may be a dumb question from a hobbyist, but I'll ask anyway...

How do you test, if you have a parallel mono or Rick-o-sound?

Plug into an amp with each jack. A mono jack will be like a regular output, you'll hear both pickups and be able to switch between them with thie toggle. IF they are both mono you have parallel mono jacks.

If you plug into a stero jack, you'll hear just one pickup; the other will seem like its dead. That's because you are using a mono input cord with a stereo output. You need a special stereo input cord to get signals from each of the two pickups; each signal can be routed to a separate amp channel with a Ric-o-sound or similar "splitter" unit.
