Hello, I'm a new member...

Post by Ric N. Backer »

First post here on the RickResource.

Nice forum!!

Here's a pic of my CS. I love the tone and playability of this baby! :D

I recently put a set of D'Addario EXL220 (.040-.060-.075-.095) on and really like them. This is the first time I ever used a light-weight set. I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Anyone else use light-gauge strings? What have been your results (like-dislike)?

Thanks!

Say, I tried uploading a small sized pic of my CS to use as my avatar, similar to the one you have, but I kept getting a message that it was too large. I took the pic using the smallest format allowable and re-sized it to 'small format,' but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's kind of tricky. First, you have to have it no larger than 100x100 pixels. Then it has to be less than 18kBytes (I think that's the size).

Getting the image size to 100x100 isn't too hard, but I've sometimes had trouble getting under the 18k limit. I'm not an expert at doing this by any means, I usually save as a JPG with lower quality until it gets small enough. I'm sure there are other people with better methods, hopefully someone else will chime in. Oh, I've been using Microsoft Office Picture Manager, 'cause it's on my computer. I've just installed photoshop, but don't really know how to use it yet.

Welcome, Robert,
Beautiful CS. I've got an '89 4003s. I love the contoured body and dot inlays....much like your bass. I'm using a light gauge string also. (.95, 75. .60, .40 or something like that). They are GHS Brite Flats light gauge. I love 'em not only for the gauge but the tone is fantastic.
This is a very good forum....you'll learn alot. I know I have.

Welcome, Robert! :D

I have TI Jazz Rounds on both my '98 4001V63 and '73 4001, these are the lowest tension strings in the known universe, and do require a light touch but i get some stellar tone from them. Here is a vid of my band from this past Septemeber playing an outdoor festival; the sound came straight from the mic on the camcorder picking up the PA.

Robert, welcome to the forum. Nice bass. I use the EXL220's on my 5 string and as the fundamentals for my 8 string. Just love 'em.
