4001CS production/sequence number help

I bought a 4001 CS (E48048) that dates to May 0f 1991, but the dealer lost the certificate of auth that gives the production numbers, any idea about finding data on the sequence number of the bass? I called Rickenbacker and they said that they didn't keep serial number/sequence number data on the CS line.

Dedgoat: I am able to provide you with some information but I suspect that you will be somewhat unhappy with the precision. Based on available registrations at the present time I am able to tell you that your sequence number is greater than #45 and less than #234. So at least you are aware of the range. I hope that further discussion under this topic will assist you. If you have a look at Chris Squire Registry those new registrations or updates will assist you narrowing the range of possibilities for your bass. I wish you well in your quest and will assist in anyway I can. I will have more updates in the near future. How can Ric. tell what a guitar is "NOT" if they can't tell you what it is? I bought the dreaded and infamous Squireglo you know the one on ebay a couple weeks ago. How many 01v63's other than Squire's did they use vermilion? I've read that they used padauk on a few. Is that true? I just find it hard to believe that a company as respected as rickenbacker can't go to a file and tell what Ser.# went out on what guitar. If anyone has deadnuts info on forsaid guitar I'd love to hear from you.SER.#g56577. Could a paint sample be analyzed for proof of brand and color and would Ric. even consider performing a test?

Vermillion and paduak are the same wood.

G56577 was a 4001CS, #438 in the edition, made on 7/15/92. E48048 was also a 4001CS, #59 produced on 5/21/91.

Actually, padauk is a common description of six different woods, most commonly Pterocarpus soyauxii. Vermilion covers two woods, sometimes including the soyauxii as well. However, the Squire bass uses Pterocarpus dalbergioides, just about the only dalbergia family wood which is still plentiful and not endangered.

It would be interesting to know how many of these (CS) were produced? It was manufactured for quite a long time.

Did they make all 1000 units? I read somewhere that RIC only made 3 lefty's.

I would think #1 is happily at home at Rickenbacker or in England with Chris. But that's
just a guess and not factual in any way!

There was something I saw posted somewhere (sorry for not being specific) that indicated the CS bass certificates seemed to have skipped a hundred numbers along the way, suggesting there were only 900 made instead of the stated 1000. Don't know if anyone at RIC ever confirmed or denied the report.
