Rain

Post by Folkie »

Has anybody here seen the PBS live footage of the Beatles cover band Rain? They have all the vintage Beatles' gear and the outfits, but the most remarkable thing is how much they SOUND like the Beatles. They're the first Beatles cover band I've come across who are able to nail the vocal harmonies. It's almost as if they're lip-synching to real Beatles records, but as the disclaimer at the beginning says, what follows is real live footage with no overdubs and no touchups. Even the banter between songs sounds authentic.

Any responses?

Gotta weigh in on this, even a few weeks later.....I will look for this video......"Rain" is the BEST name I've heard for a Beatles trib band. There is a band here in the Deep South, ( I wish I was IN this band  ) called "The Return". Total authenticity....Ricks, Gretsch, Hofners, Ludwigs, Epiphones, Gibson jumbo acoustic, Vox amp props.....yes...they are props....the entire band is plugged into a huge mix board and processed through their main sound system. An engineer processes the sound as they play. To say they are good is not enough. They banter in Liverpoolese during the show, and are in character the whole time. Their covers are note perfect----and YEP....left-handed bass guy on the Hofner..... :!:

I am all for Beatles tribute bands.....I think other tribute bands are extraordinarily LAME :x , mainly because they're imitating a much lesser band....the Beatles were a miracle......so much more art than an overweight Elvis imitator with a very bad jumpsuit and wig......and why would ANYBODY form a Bon Jovi tribute band..... ???

When I say tribute band, I mean a band that dresses and tries to LOOK like the band they are covering. Cover bands, i.e., a Byrds cover band, recreate the music only, which is just fine...... 8)

I live in Cleveland, and we have a local Beatles tribute band called Revolution Pie. They succeed in approximating some of the guitar tones, but they just can't do the vocal harmonies. Their attempt at the British accents is laughable. I've heard that 1964 is supposed to be good, but have never seen any footage of them.

I've had the Beatles in my system since I was six years old and bought my first copy of Sgt. Pepper. When the original British albums were first released on CD in the late-1980's I was ecstatic. No more combing through vintage vinyl stores for imports. Can you explain to me why all the albums were just remastered and rereleased in mono and stereo last year? Were the new CD's somehow more "authentic"?

I've seen Revolution Pie, they were okay, my standard is The Fab Faux, which I have also seen. My band does a few Beatles songs, but we just have fun with them, we are not trying to be a tribute band.
