Finally finished the WHAAM! Project. Nearly 85 hours in one paint job, spread out over about 8 months.

This started out as a mint 2000 MG 330/6. Strip it, seal it, sand it, Jetglo back, neck and headstock, five separate hand-maskings (no vinyl!) for the five colors, clean up, detailing and touch-up, lots of clearcoat and sanding flat before buffing. Three weeks for the clearcoat to cure. Now the graphic is dead-flat and glass-shiny.

I had to enlarge the 2000's CNCd control cavity to match the hand-routed original, as it's a graphic element, too. Clear acrylic, single-level guard; control cavity painted and overlaid with Rowlux. Lots of hardware replaced with NOS. Arrived in a gig bag, leaves in a new Rick case.

Are there any copyright issues surrounding the use of Roy Lichtenstein's artwork on the Whaam guitar?

It's not under the Lichtenstein estate copyright. DC Comics published the original which Roy Lichtenstein "embellished".

Interesting.
Thanks for that. I always wondered how Weller got away with using the image on his 330.
