The link to the song at the beginning of this thread is now gone. I'd like to chime in but I have nothing to reference. Could somebody post a new link?

Hey Bill,

Sorry about that...here is another link. MUCH better sound quality on this one anyway...it's cut short a little, but you will get the idea.

The name of the tune is Dona Nobis Pacem by Michael-Manring. It was on the Winter's Solstice IV Cd on Windham Hill Records.

Jeff, you are KILLING me....IF your Zon was a 4 string, I've and nailed it. I have one 5 string and I still can't get the feel down yet. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Well, I guess I should close this out....

We did the song, MULTIPLE TIMES over the Christmas weekend.

It went really well, and it was very well received.

I just wasn't happy with the tone I was getting. I couldn't even get it close.
I actually had a very nice, upright or woody tone. I had a lot of compliments on it, but
its funny...when you have an idea in your head as to how it should sound....nothing else would do.
I guess that's why GAS was invented?

Oh well, I have all year to work on that so I can improve on it for next year!

Thanks everyone for all the input.
I really appreciate it!

Glad to hear it went really well. :D Did anyone complain about the tone of your bass?

I heard Michael Manring was there to watch you.

Wise guy! LOL

NO, not a mention of the tone for some strange reason!

BUT, I STILL want that tone! 8)

LOL, if Michael was there, he'd be the ONLY one without gray hair!

He was, however, kind enough to respond to my questions about the song!
SO cool when someone like that takes time out to help a schlep like me! 8)

He already has gray hair, now it just has to fall out.

He told me liked your tone so much he is selling all his ZONs and is on the lookout for a 4003FL. :P

Ugh!

You guys are the best!

Always manage to spin my head around!

The RIC tone was great, and NORMALLY, it would be the tone I'd want.....

I tried everything, it must be my attack or lack thereof. Just a clean, upright sounding tone.
My 4003FL isn't going anywhere, I just need to add a Zon or Alembic to the heard!
Possibly a Pentabuzz?...................and a winning lottery ticket!

Now you want a 5 string fretless? You said you were having enough trouble with a fretted 5'er! :?
Find a beater 4001FL or 4003FL and have it routed to install a higain or HB1 in the same spot as the 4002 bridge pickup.
