Well, of course. That's why I used a simple template to illustrate the idea and didn't just post the raw file.(I have a Cafepress account afterall) Furthermore the illustrations are hosted on my server and therefore I can remove them at any time. I do this sort of thing for a living and for fun, at the end of the day wether it gets used or not makes no difference to me. If people like it then i'm humbled by it, and if the Admin likes it enough to print them up, and wants to contact Mr. Hall for his permission then that's great. I don't like to talk up a bunch of hot air without work to back it up so thats why I put forward examples first instead of just words.

As long as we are all on the same page and RIC gives the approval with regard to the design before any product is produced, new ideas are fine.

Oh yea, I understood that from the beginning. After saying the original designs "could use improving" I felt like I had an obligation to back that claim up. If you like it or have suggestions on how to improve it just let me know, and if it gets approved I can send you the full resolution copy of the design.

Cool! I really like the Ric bass T-shirt design. If they were available I'd get one of those, and also one of a 300-series guitar.... 8)

If it gets the green-light and people like it I could make another to represent Ric guitars, though there would need to be a consensus on the most iconic because i've got no clue what to pick.

RIC uses the 330 shape on their T- shirts. That is the most easily recognisable shape and the most iconic IMO. I like your idea for the 4001/4003 shape btw Erik.

The 4001/4003 shape is just as iconic as the 330, maybe more. IMO. I agree with Paul, Erik, I like the designs, but you should have gotten JH's approval, even Peter's approval for the RRF logo, before making & posting them.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

He said they were interested in new designs, I took that as an invitation.

Erik: The bass design features offered in your logo are iconic which could be problematic with regard to the RIC trademark.

That RIC also has a similar design concept on their shirts may also be a good reason for the Hall family to be hesitant.

Also, your present design does not provide for a RRF tie-in which is something that we would be looking for with regard to our forum. As you mentioned
Just curious but... what about this shirt says Rick Resource?

I'm just not sure what else I could do to describe what the RickResource is about if I can't use any images of Rickenbacker likenesses, other than having plain text that just says 'RickResource'.

I can't exactly use other guitars to represent our illustrious forum.

Erik: Thanks. That is what the creative process is all about I suppose. Coming up with a concept that speaks to the essence of the RRF. Certainly using the name would be important and capturing some of the other features such as original logo features of the "old forum style" and its colours, topic names, and so forth. Doing this well is not an easy task but I appreciate you offering something additional along with your critique. The use of the forum name and images on the last example though a bit faint probably won't violate trademarks.

Actually that was intended as a joke. My point was that you can't exactly represent the largest Rickenbacker forum on the internet with a picture of a generic guitar.
(or in this case a certain guitar that starts with fen and ends with der)

I mean, we're a forum about the discussion and appreciation of Rickenbackers, what else should go on a shirt other than a Rick? Plain-text is boring for a t-shirt and there's no other imagery that represents what we're about here. I could do a Transonic amp or something but then it's the same thing with the trademark issues. It's like being asked to paint a mural without any brushes or paint!

All fine and well, Erik, but when I designed the original graphics for the shirts back in '05, I sought and received JH's permission before even making the designs public. John was very specific about numbers and the issue that this be a non-profit venture; this it has remained.

I'd suggest you contact John and get his feedback. The image you have posted would be an infringement without his OK.

<<<INCORRECTLY EDITED STATEMENT>>>

He deserves a heck of a lot of respect for everything he did to give the world of music these wonderful instruments.
I'm not happy with the editing that was done with my comments regarding FC Hall's photo as used on the shirts and mugs.

This is because the editing was done without my knowledge, and does not reflect the fact that the photo looks terrific in print. It was taken by a Japanese photographer for one of their books, and represents one of the last "formal" images ever circulated of him.

My comments originally took a member to task for a potentially offensive statement made. His statement was modified, and mine edited without my knowledge, to synch with his.
