It was just a friendly reminder to all Erik, not aimed at you in particular and btw, I put the mention of his store being LA down to a typo.

I really doubt if that's true. Who's willing to verify it as fact? Anyone...anyone...?

I remember years back when Ed Roman was an authorized Rickenbacker dealer, I inquired about ordering a lefty acoustic. I was told that my chances of getting a lefty acoustic were none and none.

Thanks Paul! :D

How to describe such a man and such a business?

Two or so years ago (?) he had a store the size (in his mind, anyway) of a 5 story Walmart. Roped off areas, glass showcases, glitz.... you name it. Custom Ed Roman stuff that was the absolute bees knees and the greatest collection of rare and collectible stock in known infinty.

Now it's "Give the correct password through the slot in the steel door to the 350lb dude dripping with bling and I'll let you pay $100 bucks to come in provided you agree to spend more than what I consider the minimum amount. And if you don't spend that minimum amount within 30 days then stiff doo-doos.... you lose!! And by the way, 'Joe sent me' doesn't work any more. Appilcations for passwords will be received between the hours of 2pm and 3pm on the last Monday of the month and by appointment only - provided we consider you a suitable potential customer in the first place".

Unfortunately forum rules prohibit me from offering my opinion of his business model or his penchant for manual self-gratification.......

"If You Are Not A Past Or Current Customer" ya gotta pay $100...

So, do you think they issue ID cards to know if you're actually a past or current customer? I wonder if there's an expiration date...

I'm just completing a SH resto which had previously seen ER's ministrations. He assured the customer that the refinish that ER would do in his shop on the Hoffs, "couldn't be told from factory". The result was a money-grab. After sloppily masking off the binding and fretboard, filling the dents with bondo, and power-sanding the old CV with a jitterbug, a few coats of black nitro were sprayed over the entire instrument. Sand-scratches, bondo shrink, and chips were evident.

I just finished stripping this instrument down to bare maple, sanding it perfectly smooth, and putting on the first coats of color and CV. It'll be nice, once it's done. Too bad I had to spend time and effort undoing the "restoration" of a hack.

I have a hunch- Ed Roman seems like the type of guy who if challenged would flat out say 'come and get me'. Given that he is in Vegas, he may be able to out-lawyer Ric because of some sort of 'Vegas style' lawyering, or perhaps Ed Roman has a bigger sales volume than Ric and he can afford to higher more lawyers than Ric. Not that I support what he does, but it seems that certain types of business's are able to get away with stuff more so than others.
I'm not aware that Las Vegas is immune from federal law, and at the same time our lawyers are some of the best. Just watch.

Facility?

The only facility Ed has shown is for slinging El Toro Poo-Poo.
