Anybody know/picked up remastered Greatest Hits?
When I write this, I mean the remastered Greatest Hits albums: 1962-1966 and 1967-1970.
Aside from the 2009-style packaging with new liner notes, notes and lyrics to each song and rare photos ("Groovy Beatles Pictures" thread probably has them!), it's pretty much a waste, for me. I did not buy them, nor did I want to. It's a waste because only Tracks 1-4 were in mono while everything else was in stereo.
My buddy Alex and I were talking and we felt this would have been bettered if All of 1962-1966 and disc 1 of 1967-1970 was in mono while disc 2 to 1967-1970 was in stereo. It has no appeal to me, and I'm not going to buy it, just as I haven't bought the Spector Let It Be and won't.

I got it as I only got the Mono Box - with this I got something to fill the interim until I get the Stereo Box.
There's quite a few songs that are different one way or another between the mono and stereo mix.
Some songs sound better in mono, some in stereo - some doesn't matter.

I feel the same way. When you have it all, there's really no need for these compilations. I wish Apple could've thought of something a little more "back wall" for the Christmas season.JakeK wrote:When I write this, I mean the remastered Greatest Hits albums: 1962-1966 and 1967-1970.

They should make documentaries on each album.

Anybody know/picked up remastered Greatest Hits?
Wondering, do any of the Beatles reissues or remasters have a "corrected" version of Day Tripper, where there is that little gap in the original CD "Past Masters" and vinyl versions, about two-thirds of the way ?
Re: Anybody know/picked up remastered Greatest Hits?
I have to go back & listen but unfortunately I think it's "corrected". I say unfortunately because I remember reading a John Lennon interview where he said they did things like that on purpose to see if people were paying attention.8mileshigher wrote:Wondering, do any of the Beatles reissues or remasters have a "corrected" version of Day Tripper, where there is that little gap in the original CD "Past Masters" and vinyl versions, about two-thirds of the way ?

the gap in Day Tripper is not corrected. This is , because the songs are remastered, but not remixed.
The gap was made, because there was an unwanted switch noise or something on the guitar track. So it was "on purpose"
There was a very good stereo outtake of this song, without the gap and without reverb and fade out, some years ago.

For better or worse, many of us see this as being a redundancy in the catalog but for a lot of people this is a great step forward from the One album that reintroduced many to the Beatles in a very consumer-friendly way. This is a great gift set for someone not a completist or major fan. While many of us don't need it and won't buy it, I think it's cool that they are reissuing it so that those casual listeners can have a good greatest hits package that goes deeper than One did.

I guess if they can find half a million people who feel a burning desire to buy the albums through iTunes but can't rip them from a CD, then theres a market for these as well.
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

There's also a great opening here for those that do enjoy having something that's substantially more tangible than an iTunes gift card.egosheep wrote:I guess if they can find half a million people who feel a burning desire to buy the albums through iTunes but can't rip them from a CD, then theres a market for these as well.
