Since they tour so infrequently, it might be prudent to become "sick" around one of the Chicago shows. The four shows I have seen so far have been excellent.brian_l wrote:During my college years, I wore out cassette copies of both Bandwagonesque and Thirteen in my VW Rabbit's tape player. I have since bought them on CD and they still sound as fresh today as they did back then. If I had some vacation time left, I would love to catch one of their shows up in Chicago. They are one of those bands on my list that I have always wanted to see live but haven't yet. Maybe someday

Saw them at the 9:30 Club in DC last month. No Ric content, but they were excellent live. I've been a fan for many years, but this was the first time Ive been able to catch them.
The Vaselines were good too, but the other opener was probably the worst band I've ever seen. Weird.

TAFC were Kurt Cobain's favorite band. That says a lot to me about Cobain's preferences in music that go beyond his own "sound".

Teenage Fanclub's a great band! I've been listening to them off and on since Bandwagonesque came out in the early 90s. It's good to see that they're still going strong.

TFC is one of the greatest power pop bands of all time.
Cheap Trick was another of Cobain's great influences. Go figure!

Melvins were Cobain's favorite band...I know this for a fact...firsthand....knew him.
Also, Kurt had a lefty JG 4003.

I love Teenage Fanclub. I used to have a t-shirt back in '91-'92 with "I'm a Teenage Fanny" on the front! I really like this footage of them at the Marquee Club in the early 1990s as I remember watching it when it first aired:

The "Fannies" are one of my favorite bands. Glad to see the're getting some love on this forum. "Baby Lee" is pretty representative of their latter, more mature, sounding stuff they've been putting out lately. Originally, they were a distortion-laden bunch of hard rockers (albums A Catholic Education and The King) with just a few songs that I enjoyed listening to. Somewhere along the line the distortion became more harnessed, the melodies more refined, and the sound more distinguished and professional, giving rise to one of the greatest albums of the early 90's: Bandwagonesque.
Although I appreciate all of their albums, Grand Prix, with catchy harmonies and brilliant songwriting, is BY FAR my most played record of theirs.

I would recommend starting with Grand Prix, or Songs From Northern Britain. Some of their best work
