I think when it comes to the RM1999, that RIC's been there and done that with the V63and C64. The RM1999 was really just a '64 4001S exported for Ross Morris, which was pretty much what the V63 was. The 4001CS was really just a n RM1999 with a custom paint job. Later V63's were much less accurate though once then changed headstock and bridge pickup surround shapes.

I think they got the pickup surround correct on the late V63's ; at least McCartney's bass had that type and the 63 4001 pictured in the Smith book had it also.
It looks to me like they build the 4003 now as it was modeled in the early sixties. Except for pickup type, placement and check binding off course.
This 2010 model looks pretty similar.

Headstock changed again etc.. It might mean something, knowing how RIC tries to streamline their production.
Off course, this is wild speculation :lol:
What a cool couple would that be; a RI 1963 4001 and 4001s :D
