Acoustics?

A guy in the UK who runs the Rickysounds website has a few acoustics for sale, a 700/12 Comstock, and two 700/6 Comstock.

No price listed for the 700/12 and one of the 700/6 but he will listen to offers; 7,000 British pounds (= mucho US dollars) for the other 700/6.

Judging by the year of manufacture (all 2001?) these were made by the company prior to discontinuing factory production and licensing Paul Wilczynski to make Rickenbacker acoustic guitars.

Paul, the tuning pegs seem to be pitting a little bit.What is the proper way to clean them?

These are Schaller's best, and I've not heard of this happening before.

Try using a bit of wax on a soft cloth to protect them. Nothing abrasive, though.

yeah you can see it on the photo of the headstock. Maybe from the kid using his greasy fingers on them?

i will try an wipe with a non-abrasive cloth then apply a tiny drop of wax

So i'm curious, I notice you're using the Plexi-style TRC's, is that just a matter of preference? It seems like the older plexi-style TRC's have alot of variations in the shape whereas the raised-letter (assumingly moulded plastic) types are all very consistent, I assumed that's why they changed. I like the way the clear plexi looks though.

Oh, you mean "fish-tail=blue"? I suppose, literally-speaking, that could be considered true. But this style headstock looks great in ANY color, not to mention it's also been called "Batwing" (Jetglo, perhaps?), "Gullwing" (Gray or Silver?), "Steerhorn" (Schittbrindle Brown?), and "Dagwood" (Plaid? ).

It's a lovely, flamboyant shape that has a nice vintage feel to it. I typically pair it with a square neck heel, though not always. It's like no other acoustic headstock, and, as in most things in product design, it's the subtleties that give it its character. In the case of the 12 string version, getting the dimensions just right to capture the proper proportions and be functional with the tuners and TRC, presented quite a challenge when I made the patterns for routing and drilling!

As far as the TRCs go, these are engraved and are unique to the acoustics, with radiused and polished edges as well. Most are gold with satin platinum script, but this one looked best as charcoal over white MOP to match the pickguard.
